Shootin em outta da 4" 686 I got from C4W, which, I might add, is a hell of a gun

For zero recoil, you can try the old bullseye recipe that I use:

2.9 gr Bullsye
148 HBWC

Looking back over my notes, I also shot a lot of 158gr LSWC over 3.8 gr of Unique. I later found that 4.5 gr of Unique was more accurate in my gun, but had a little more recoil.YMMV.

Look at something in a light Bullseye load. I just loaded 2K 38s with a 125 gr plated bullet and 3.5 grs of Bullseye. I am aware you didn't inquire about loads for a 125 gr bullet, since when does responding to the asked question apply around here? BTW, you're right about the 686, what type of grips are on the gun?

Factory rubber.

Look like Hogues, but not as thick.

I like em MUCH better than (other) Hogues I've seen for N frames. New springs make da already smooth trigger feel real nice all da way thru too.

I got some 120's or somethin close, in a Keith style gotta dig out dat mould an see. I know I got 148's in a button WC @ 10 BHN, an some DEWC's dat are real soft, look swaged an rolled.

I don't have any BE on hand, but I do have a lil bit of Unique, both old an new. Maybe it a be a good way ta use up da last jug a old school Unique. I thought I had all dat gone, but I found another jug maybe 3/4 full.

I like da idea of some Red Dot, an maybe some TG, but I cain't do 231. All I had is gone, an I ain't buyin any more - ever.

Only gonna load a can, so it ain't gonna be many, jus gotta take somebody shootin dat is real recoil sensitive.

I would go with a 158 grain and 2.5 to 3 grains of red dot. I load 158 grain with 3 grains of red dot its pretty light.

Zero recoil? Well, 3.0 - 3.2 grains of Trailboss with a 158-gr cast bullet is almost like shooting a Hi-Speed .22LR.

So is 2.7-gr of Bullseye and a 158-gr LSWC.

They both meter really well from my Lyman #55

Both are too soft for my preference, so after trying them I stepped them up quite a bit.

.38 special 158 grain cast rnfp with 4.0 grains of unique at 1.477 oal is one of my favorites. It should work fine with a lswc. Enjoy!

I try this load every now and then: A 158gr LSWC over a dose of Nitrogen and Oxygen. I use once fired primers.

This load has absolutely no recoil!

That's a pretty good load there JT, but you should mix in just a pinch of Argon.

Fill it to the rim with fffg. Remove just enough to allow for a modest amount of compression with the size of bullet your using, and it feels like a pellet gun...

i use 3.5 of bullseye with a 148 wad cutter. i'm set up on my 650 right now for this load and as soon as i'm out of bullets or powder it'll be the last i load of bullseye or wad cutters to simplify what i keep on hand.

Argon needs a vacuum. You better get the wifey's vacuum out and standby with it.....:)

Lot a SASS shooters load 3 gr. Red Dot, Tite, or BE under 125 gr. lead. You
want softer than that; use lesser amounts of BE or Tite. Neither leave sand grains under the star. BE leaves soot; Tite leaves yellow snot about the size of an earplug at low pressures.

I know you don't like WW231, but I saw a super light load in an old Guns and Ammo or something many years ago and tried it. Honestly, this one really does shoot about like 22 lr:

2.1 grains WW231
148 gr HBWC

I also tried the same charge with 158 gr SWC's and it worked just as nice. Used to shoot this out of a 2" S&W model 64 and used it to teach new shooters who weren't used to recoil at all... then worked them up to full power .38's and then on to 9mm, 45 auto and 357 mag.
