I grew up in Lawrence, but have been gone for years. I still like to visit Lawrence occasionally.
I saw on the google map project that you live pretty close to Mill Creek.
I shot a USPSA match there earlier this year. Do you shoot there?
I'm way down by Joplin, about 2 miles from the KS line.

Galena? I spent quite a few Friday and Saturday nights there back in early 70's before I turned 18. Then I tried getting into the real bars. I lived in Neosho during my teens.
Galena?
The armpit of Kansas.
It's like a time warp just crossing the state line.

I haven't been to Galena since about 1975. Back in those days there was a bar called the Ranch and one named Green Parrot(?) that was easy to drink when underage (18) or you went because you weren't 21 in MO. Its kind of a moot point now anyway.
I've heard about the green parrot, from guys from miles around.
Rest assured, Galena is still stuck in 1975.
I was down in Tontitown, AR. a couple weeks ago for a USPSA match and a guy asked me about the Red Lion in Joplin. I had to tell him it was closed. Now a Sports bar.
I'd bet you know that one too.

The Red Lion creates a vague memory. I think it involved beer and tequila. Back in those days I would buy a 12 pack of tall boy Busch and a fifth of tequila to start the night.
A good friend of mine from those days was the prosecuting attorney in McDonald county. I could never figure that one out. I'm hoping to take a vacation to the area later this year.

Rick,
Yes I'm member at Mill Creek. Shoot often.
It helps that I'm only two miles from the range.
I work from home, so some days I just take my lunch at the range.

I'm not from KS anymore, but I live about 13 miles from it in CO. This is definitely God's Country.
