I've been thinking of getting the new ruger when i get back from the sand box, now that i only have days left Im looking for some more opinions. I've read about 15 articles on it and the gun writers seem to like it, just wondering if anyone out there has bought one and how they like it.
Thanks

just remember this......most gun writers wages are paid from advertising dollars. ruger advertises alot. would you give anything a bad review if it might meen losing the advertising money?

i have only handled the sr9 a few time, and it feels nice. it does leave quite a bit to be desired in the trigger pull. i dont know how easy that would be to work out. not alot of "stuff" available for them

other suggestions.

there are a lot more, just kind of depends on what you plan to use the gun for.

I keep checkin' them out when ever I'm at the gun shop in Gallup. I ain't shot it, but it feels pretty dern' good in the mitts! The trigger is very subjective, I don't mind it, it don't feel that bad to me, but I grew up shootin' revolvers and have NY-1 triggers in all my Glocks. It's been said that many have tested the trigger with the mag out and that the mag needs to be in for one to get the true feel of what it would be like. The mag.safety jobber they put in can be removed if ya' want it that way, which the guy in the gun shop already took out. I've heard of some barrel peening issues and I'd wait till that is worked out before I would get one. It should be addressed by the time ya' get back. If I was in the market for another 9mm, which I ain't at the moment, Id be gettin' one of these. My only nit-pik is that mags are a bit expensive and I'm pretty much a mag whore. But I could deal with it.

I love Rugers. I can't wait till the SR9 is offered in a sub-compact version.

I bought one bout 2 months ago and love it. Have not had any problems that the forums have talked about. Great gun for the money. Have about 2000 rounds thru it without a hicup. Loves lead bullets. I would recomend it to any glock shooter. Cannot wait till someone starts making accessories for it such as Lite pipe and a true holster that fits it.

They're definately Ruger's best semi-auto yet (IMO), but I didn't like the trigger at all. I heard it smooths out over time, though.

jimruger9 has one. It's basically a Glock with a manual safety and a mag safety. The internal parts are VERY glock like, connector, striker, trigger bar, etc.

Trigger pull is stout, and I hate that damned safety cluttering up a clean grip on the slide. Oh, and we pulled out the mag safety parts right off the bat.

So if you cut off the manual safety tabs, remove the mag safety parts, and fix the trigger, then you have a Glock 17.

Buy a G17 and get a half inch more barrel. And get a Glock instead of a Ruger. I like the feel of the SR9 but the thin frame may be a recoil negative in larger calibers.

I have a Kahr, a S&W 4 inch revolver and a G34 I use for competition. I wish I had

G26/27 to replace the Kahr
G20 to replace the S&W as my woods gun

It would be nice to have consistent controls/triggers/sights as in the end the guns are meant for self defense and switching platforms sucks. I wish I knew what I know now about choosing a gun.

Edit: For you that means look at the SR9 as part of a system not a individual purchase if you carry a gun in self defense at any time.

how about this:

From Ruger directly

RUGERŪ SR9™ PRODUCT SAFETY WARNING AND RECALL NOTICE
DO NOT USE YOUR RUGER SR9 PISTOL

We have determined that some Ruger SR9 pistols manufactured between October 2007 and April 2008 can, under certain conditions, fire if dropped with their manual safeties in the "off" or "fire" position. The pistols will not fire if the manual safety is in the "on" or "safe" position.
We will retrofit all Ruger SR9 pistols starting with serial number prefix “330” (330-xxxxx) with these new parts at no charge to our customers.
In order to ensure correct fitting, this new part must be installed at our Ruger factory in Prescott, Arizona. We will remove the old parts and install the new group promptly, at no charge, and will return the pistol to you. The old parts will not be returned.

Oh...and as to how many of the ruger SR9's that represents? My understanding is that it's ALL of them.

Does that count as "sucks"?

Damn. That does suck. Glad I didn't trade for one them a couple of months ago. Traded for a OD G-23 to complete my 40S&W Glock herd.

I have had one for about three months now, and have put several hundred rounds through it. I know Koski compared it to a Glock, but it fits my hands much better than the Glock due to the slimness. Also, the point angle is much better in my opinion. Also, the trigger smoothes out real nice after 3-400 rounds, which is not much different than the break in period of 500 rounds for some 1911 pistols.
