I am still in the process of getting my 550 set up and I have a question. What is the function/purpose of the retaining clip that is located on the platform where you insert a new piece of brass? I've noticed that if you insert the clip too far towards the ram, the shell plate won't turn at all. Should the clip be fully pulled away from the shell plate? Does the screw that holds this clip down need to be tightened to prevent movement of the clip once it is place? Or should it just stay loose?

It guides and holds the brass into the slot so you can deprime the case.
Adjust it so it just holds the case in but lets the shell plate turn.

The clip holds the case in position 1 while you re-size. Without it, sometimes the case will back out slightly and not enter the die properly.

I adjust the clip so that it is just barely touching a case in position 1, and then tighten down the screw to hold it in place.

It seems that I've had to bend the clip up and over a bit to get it to do it's job.

When you change calibers, you generally have to adjust the clip a bit.

Thanks for the help. So far I am very impressed with the build of this press. Too bad I wasted a few cases trying to get the belling right on the powder die. When I configure the 9mm toolhead, I know to start with NO belling and go from there. I set the die way to low first for my .45 auto. Lessons learned.

I hafta remove da clip altogether for 500SW.

Get in da way.

It's a godsend for 9mm or 32 Mag

If you like call Dillon. They have a "adjust it so the clip contacts the case at 4:00 position" Or some such thing. I found the best for me and my 9mm round is to get the clip to barely touch the case. If it touches a 9mm case much at all it will drag on the shellplate. Then when I switch to 10mm I don't need to adjust it all all.
