Finally after more than a year of being "not" worked on, I got my RIA again.
Of course the trigger won't reset if a mag is in place. Seems the trigger loop is too small for the mag well. Damn. I'll have to put the stock one back in for now until I can get one to fit.
The trigger in there now is the one from my Kimber. No biggie really. Just something I gotta do.
Getting a Caspian Longslide in 10mm for it. Then 9x25 Dillon barrel.

I really like that 1911 you've got there! I've got a Colt Gold Cup Trophy and I wish I had a 1911A1 beater like that one!. All you really need to do to it is a beavertail, an attention getting front sight and .... lots of ammo.
Wish I never bought that GoldCup. It's really not a carry gun.

This is mainly a range blaster. I was going to tacticool it out with a Caspian rail for home defense. I was thinking of sending the slide out for a Novak cut. I'm going to get a SS barrel and bushing, fix the sights, add a magwell and then a Black T finish. Possible FS checkering.
This was going to be a poor man's Jim Wilson special. I took the internals and beavertail from my Pro Carry and had them fitted for the RIA. The grips are stock from the Kimber as well. I want it all black but the hammer, trigger, barrel, and bushing. Then a plain rear with a tritium front.

Looks like you discovered the macro feature of your camera, by the time you got around to that last pic!:) Good luck with getting a trigger that'll work to your satisfaction.
I inherited some 70 Series Gold Cups, and have just never been motivated to buy another 1911. I do shoot one of the Gold Cups occasionally, though.

Actually the camera I used (POS Sony) doesn't have a macro setting. I just got lucky on that one. I bought a new Olympus 7MP camera that is very nice, has macro and super macro, but the wife doesn't know about it so I had to use the "old" camera while she was in the room.
I stripped the gun and bent the trigger outwards a bit. Helps some but not all. The first thing that alerted me to the problem was a mag wouldn't seat and would get stopped at a certain distance in the magwell. I marked it, set it next to the grip. Sure as ****, the trigger bar it tight.
My smith should have noticed it, but to his credit, I didn't include an empty mag with the gun. There are 1911 mags around the shop he could have used. At least he did the frustrating parts for me. I don't have the patience to work on them much.
I have an aftermarket trigger (whose brand name I forget, EB I think) in my Kimber Pro Carry that I like and that fits fine in the RIA. I could buy another of those and slap it in. The trigger that's in the RIA is the Kimber's old one.

I've read a lot of nice things about RIA 1911's. It seems the only negative things i've read were written by those that don't own them, while actual owners really like the gun. Given how affordable they are compared to the higher end things like Wilson or Kimber, I expect that the RIA could be my first choice if i ever wish to start shooting .45.

I've only seen one RIA 1911 out at our local range, and it's owned by a shooter friend of mine. For the money, it seemed pretty tight, finished o.k., etc. I fired it a few times, and it never malfunctioned. My recollection is that the trigger was pretty decent.

I paid $285 for mine. Trigger was pretty good. The grips were a joke, but I intended on replacing them anyway. Only bad thing it came with a shock buffer that loked the gun up. I removed it (after discovery) and it's been running fine ever since.

My dad paid $236 each, for the four 70 Series Gold Cups that he owned at his death. Of course, he bought them in the 70s, but that was still an excellent price, back then. Whenever I'm feeling a little anachronistic, I get out one of the GCs and run a few rounds downrange. :)

RIAs are best deal on a 1911, I'd put Taurus PT1911 2nd.

I tried to buy an RIA a couple of times last year and always wound up being a day late. I'd heard they were as undervalued as the SA GIs, so I wanted one to work on.
I'll still scarf up either of those if I see one cheap.

+1. I went to get a RIA, and ended up with a Taurus as the shop was out of the RIA's, and I was in a mood to buy a 1911, lol.
