GSSF is a static shooting game that is ho-hum boring compared to IDPA which is low round count boring compared to USPSA.

GSSF is a good place to earn money and guns if you teach yourself to shoot from behind a table with loaded mags on the table. Most GSSF ROs are club volunteers that don't know the rules.

Come on in here ede and tell 'em otherwise.

In all fairness, Adam, I value two things more than firearms, women and cash. The first one should be obvious and the second, cash is more flexible. Believe it or not, I actually have investment besides firearms. :biggrinjester:

I won't complain if they give away cash.

I agree but the cash prizes are usually $50.00 or $100.00 if I recall. I won a $50.00 cash prize at the Lexington match.

You actually win a certificate for a free Glock when you win a gun. Its for any of the basic model (G17 G22 etc) with the option to pay for upgrades like nite sights, or one of the more expensive models.

A certificate is as good as cash in the right circles

Understood. Up in N. IN, we don't have GSSF so I've never shot a match.

I believe that GSSF now gives guns on a random drawing basis, instead of the older Lewis system.

Cash you have to earn.

On indoor matches the gun is random. 20 or 30 people shooting and one random gun given. Winners in each class get a choice of prize, for example one indoor match I won I recieved a plaque, (pretty nice) and also a Glock field knife.

Tha cash prize I won was a random prize at the Lexington Outdoor match.

I think the last couple years they have been changing around the whole prize thing in the outdoor matches

M.M.aP99,
Your closest GSSF match is probably INDY.
Samuarirabbi is one of the RO's from that club. I've shot there 3 or 4 times.

4eyes, I don't agree with your opinion regarding GSSF, but do respect your right to voice it. GSSF event's have alway's seemed to be about promoting the brand and making shooting sports a family fun event. The biggest factor is the FUN. They may not be a high speed, low drag, winner takes home big money venture but why should it matter? Oh well, I've had my say.:yesnod:

4eyes it took me a while but i finially got here to tell them other wise. GSSF for me is the most friendly group of shooters i've ever encountered. as has been mentioned some people win money and glock certificates which are as good as cash. i've been lucky, i've got something like 13 certificates and 2 guns from GSSF plus some checks. gssf has a very level playing field that's hard to game or buy an equipment edge. i odn't shoot much IDPA, too many rules for me, i do shoot a lot of USPSA and love it.

When your old, over weight, surgery on both knees. Can’t run, bend, squat. Don’t have to stand on your head etc. GSSF is the way to go. You don’t have to be good to win guns or money. Matter of fact you can come in last place and get a gun. I know I did it.

Damn, there is an event I can compete in? Sign me up...where do I go? Better yet...where do I go in 2 weeks when I move to MD?

There is a match in Waldorf, MD in May I think. Check WWW.GSSFONLINE.COM (http://www.GSSFONLINE.COM) under the Match Schedule heading.

One thing I don't recall seeing in the replies above, there are some pretty fine shooters in GSSF, especially in the Master Division. Yes, you can win a prize, even a gun just by being in the competition, but to finish at or near the top takes a little skill and some luck.

Are you sure you really want to leave San Antonio to move to MD. There are 3 GSSF Matches in Texas( San Antonio, Carrollton and Lubbock). I have been to all 3 and plan on attending 2 of the 3 again this season.

I definately will not make it to Lubbock this year. Air Fares have gone out of site. I have already cancelled 2 matches that were long drives due to the cost of gas. Hope I don't have to make any other adjustments but only time will tell.

That's a real bummer. I always enjoy you guys coming here to shoot with us. I guess the extra flight from D/FW or Houston was the cost breaker? You add another $100 to the already overpriced flight & it just gets too expensive, doesn't it?
We'll miss you guys!

GSSF is intended to be beginner-friendly. However, if you think that it is "boring," try beating Butch, Grady or even ede!

I shoot USPSA club matches as practice for IDPA, since there aren't enough IDPA matches in my area. I think USPSA stage round-counts are pretty silly. :subgun:
