View Full Version : .308 Win load
Anybody got a favorite .308 load that matches 7.62 nato pressures pretty well? I just picked up a Ishapore Enfield 2A in 7.62 and wanted to start loading for it, but wanted to start with some powders that were at the lower scale of the pressure spectrum. I was thinking win748 anyone have any suggestions. I will probably be using hornady 150 gr fmjbt bullets or something very similar with federal cases my wife gets from the training range at her work.Iwill probably buy some reloadable surplus stuff also and planned to start about 2 grains lighter with surplus brass and work up.Apreciate any suggestions,

I had great luck with 748 and 175's @ about 42 grains. Nice low pressure and very accurate.

I Prefer 147 grn fmjbt in my 308 bolt guns, i really like IMR 4350, IMR 4064, and W748. I also really like H4831SC but its hard to get load data for it. works great in 30-06 bolt guns

With my Steyr Scout I use BHPT 165 grs over VV N135.

With a 147 - 150 grain FMJ best loads are 43.0 grains of H-335 which is very accurate or 45.0 grains of W-748. Both od these powders should have a magnum primer. The Federal 215 might be too hot for 308 though. Standard Winchester LR primer is hotter than CCI magnum primers. Federal standard 210's are hotter than CCI magnums but not as hot as Winchester LR's. Remington 9 1/2 non-magnum are the mildest. Remington magnums are similar to CCI's. Federal cases are the softest and last the least time. Primer pockets get loose and can be loose loose on once fired Federal cases. Should be okay for free cases though.

My 2A shoots 147 gr Bulgarian steel case Copper wash military surplus well, and my handloads poorly.
