Anyone know of states that have weird ammo laws as far as purchasing, mail order, etc?

The states I'm most interested in are the commie states:

CA
IL- something about an FOID but has to go to FFL. Confirm?
MA
DE
RI
NY
HI

None in IN. However, you will not be able to sign a contract or buy liquor on a Sunday.

As far as I know in Washington State the only laws pertaining to the purchase of Ammo is that you need money. Otherwise it is called theft.

I know places like Cabela's and CTD state if you live in certain states to check your local laws, but nothing specific.

Ammoman had issues with RI. I would poke around there for a while to see what they require for various places.

As far as I know california is pretty liberal with ammo. We have had a few scares with the bullet serialization, but that got shot down twice. I've had no problems buying ammo mail order or retail. I've bought tracers, armor piercing, anyone else had problems?

The assault weapon ban still sucks.

Here in California it seems the most restrictive laws that are now in place are local. An example is that in the county I live I have been told multiple times that you cannot have ammunition delivered. However, I have never had a problem getting large amounts delivered by UPS from Natchez or Midway. San Francisco passed a law that made semi-auto pistols illegal. Didn't stand, though, as the State said it was contrary to State and Federal laws. But they keep trying. :dita:to them.

Ammoman says no sales to AK, HI, MA, NJ and IL has to be 21yo/FOID, ship to that address.

AIM Surplus says:

-CALIFORNIA CUSTOMERS: No sales of Ammunition Delivered to the Counties: Napa and Yolo. No Ammunition Delivered to the Cities: Los Angeles, Oakland, San Francisco. No high capacity magazine sales to anyone or dealer in CA. Check for other Local & State laws before ordering.
-HAWAII: No High Capacity Pistol Magazines or Ammunition Sales.
-ILLINOIS CUSTOMERS:Must have current copy of FOID card and State Photo Identification, No sales of ammunition and/or magazines to the City of Chicago.
-MASSACHUSETTS CUSTOMERS: No sales of ammunition or magazines. No high capacity magazine sales to anyone or dealer in MA.
-MARYLAND CUSTOMERS: No High Capacity Magazine Sales. No sales of Ammunition Delivered to the City of Annapolis or Montgomery County. Check for other Local & State laws before ordering.
-NEW JERSY CUSTOMERS: No High Capacity Magazine Sales. Check for other Local & State laws before ordering.
-OHIO: No sales of Magazines with over 30rd capacity.
-NEW YORK CUSTOMERS: NY City Dealers must have the appropriate city licenses, No Sales to NY City. No Sales of High Capacity magazines manufactured 09/14/1994 or after. Check for other Local & State laws before ordering.
-WASHINGTON DC CUSTOMERS: No Sales of any products.
-US Territory of Puerto Rico: No Sales of ammunition.

I'm considering not selling ammunition to the above states, just for my protection. I hate to cut off customers, but it's too much of headache to keep stuff straight.

NYS is fine for mail order ammo sales, AIM just restricts handguns to 01 dealers with a state dealers license and normal mags due to NYS AWB.

Thats news to me. I knew you could'nt get hicaps that's part of the assult weapon ban. I had no idea no mail order to Los Angeles, I live in Torrance which is probably 6-8 miles from the city line(we're all still in los angeles county). When I used to live with my folks 7 or so years ago I used to order all the time and they live in LA. I guess chit changes.

I guess that's an ATF issue, the local police don't know nuttin bout it.

San Bernardino County is kinda weird about retail component gunpowder sales--the Sheriff's Department is slow and uncooperative in issuing permits to FFL dealers. Example--Bass Pro Shops in Rancho Cucamonga opened in July 2007, and to this day remain unable to stock or sell propellant. Per store personnel, the holdup is the permit from the SD.

Don't know how that would effect deliveries of ammo or other components in CA, Freek.

Freak,

Went to the Smith and Wesson Indoor match in 2007. They (S&W) made absolutely sure all competitors knew in advance to bring all their own ammo, as an out-of-stater cannot purchase ammo in Massachussetts.

That's about all I know. Might not be pertinent, but there it is.

Do these laws pertaining to ammunition apply to components or just fixed ammunition?

If not, then a resident just needs to take up casting and handloading.

Not bad here .

Our postman questions me , If I was a Cop with all my ammo / component deliveries . I Showed him My agency related Mech. ID , sorta cooled his jets
They must have a pep talk " be the nosey postman 101 ".

This Asian mail man has a chip on his shoulder , He ragged about my mail box slot for days . 20 years no issues with the other guy , just like all the neighbors .

Colorado: 10% of all ammo that is imported or shipped has to be sent directly to the Colorado Chief Ammo Inspection Office (C.C.A.I.O.), and the ammunition is non refundable, but is tax deductible for the receiving party or parties! That's found under CO-82.125 section b & c... The tax laws pertaining to the Colorado ammunition importation shipping regulations or simply the C.A.I.S.R., is I believe under Colorado Tax Code 113.16(g) or maybe XXX.17(g) can't remember... I know I should!

Any-who, Dan knows all the goodies...and By coincidence I am head of the C.C.A.I.O.

Sincerely
Ron C. Terry

Thank you for your inquiry, and if you have anymore questions do not hesitate to ask...
Good Day Sir.

Here in Massachusetts we are limited as to what we can buy and how we can buy what we are allowed to possess. Although our AWB never expired most of the laws believe it or not have more to do with the state getting their money than being a form of gun control. After moving here from a free state {Maine} that had hardly any restrictions I'd rather do my gun transactions here in Massachusetts than a free state. The reason being if you know where to buy the prices can be MUCH, MUCH lower.
