Which reloading manual(s) work best for newbies?
Which manuals are best for other uses (rifle, pistol, cast bullets, etc.)?
Which manuals do you find yourself referring to most often?
Me:
I hear ABC's of reloading is da bomb for new reloaders, but I've never seen one. My first manual was Speer 12, which I read cover to cover (for real, every last word).
I load mostly pistol, and find myself looking at Speer 14, Lee's Modern Reloading (first edition - soon to be collectible), and online data.

For the heck of it, I just bought Lee's book at the show this weekend. Seems to have a larger amount of basic info than most. A lot of it is specific to Lee equipment, but will carry over. A lot of info on casting too.

I've only been reloading for handguns for about 6 months. I have Speer #14 and Lee's Modern Reloading 2nd Edition. I use the Lee book the most so far along with the online data from Hodgdon and Alliant.

ABC's was good, I have the hornady 7th edition. I'm sure this place has 10x's the info of any loading manual.

For loading for rifle I strongly recommend "Handloading for Competition" by Glen D. Zediker. It contains only the technology of loading, not load formulas. This book is especially good for those that are somewhat anal as it gets very deep into what it takes to load extremely accurate rounds. The 2005 version is the sixth printing.

I used Lee's when I first started. I think its a good one for beginners since it covers several powder companies and is fairly generic for the bullets, covering FMJ, lead and plated.

I've been to 3 bookstores and 3 gunshops... no reloading books nor manuals anywhere. Guess i may have to hit Amazon.
...the bookstores did have 10-15 titles on surf boarding.
Bookstores in Ohio.
Where we can't surf.

I picked up Lee's 2nd Edition at my local gun shop. They had a few others including Lymans and I think they had Speer's as well. I need to go back and get another one and balance it off what is in Lee's.

Good questions.
I personally think most of the manual publishers have gotten a bit lazy...most, publish the same old outdated stuff time and again some, even referring to out-of-date powders and ignoring current, popular loads. Of the ones I have (and that's most of them), Lee's, despite the pomp & circumstance, probably has more actual load data. I like Nosler & Sierra's inclusion of accurate loads & powders but most of the big hitters...Lee, Hornady, Speer, Nosler, Sierra, etc. seem to cover the basics adequately. Although its just a collection of data from other sources, little cheapo caliber-specific "Load Guides" and Ray Riling's Reloading Guide series seem to take the prize for the most complete data for the widest range of bullets & powders.

Here at the blue koolaid plant, we recommend the Lyman 48th edition reloading manual most often. It has a decent intro explaining why you do what you do, has data for cast as well as jacketed bullets, and offers data for a good variety of powder brands and bullet weights.
For simply load data, I send folks to www.hodgdon.com (http://www.hodgdon.com)

Lyman 48th
+1
An easy to read comprehensive reference manual with a data section that is pretty accurate in my experience.
The ABC's is also a good manual.
Sierra is one of my favorite for Load Data.

What we NEED is a listing of every reloading manual owned by GP reloaders.
If one of us needs some specs on 44WCF and it's in Lyman 21 from 1969 it would be good if we knew who among us had that info.

I've got an older Lyman manual somewhere around here, from 67 I think.

I only have the Lee Modern Reloading. I hope to add more to that this weekend, depending on what the local gun shop still has in stock. :)

The Lee Reloading Manual came with my Lee Kit from Kempf Gun Shop. I ordered Lyman "Pistol and Revolver: Reloading Handbook: Third Edition and Nosler Reloading Guide from Midway yesterday and should be here tomorrow. I also wanted the ABC's of Reloading but since the newest edition is coming out in June I'll wait.

I only have two manuals.
I would never get rid of either. They compliment each perfectly.
I use the Sierra manual. this is a very detailed conservitve approach to reloading. It is also very accurate.
My other manual is the Guys at GP. They are much less conservative and not always as detailed nor are they necessarily accurate. However between the two sources I have never wanted for information.

PM Mogollon - it sounds like a Dillon publication to me. Bet it would sell a ton.
They could do a subscription version - update the load data every 4 or 5 years & the girls every year. I know I'd subscribe. :driving:
