Am contemplating a 9mm AR and doing my research on it. The one I'm thinking about is to go with RRA. They have a lower available complete with all the conversion parts. I'm thinking about mating that up with a 10 1/2" upper assembly and registering it as a SBR. The lower they have uses modified uzi mags ...What brands are the ****ty ones and which ones are the good ones? Also if I bought the lower first and then later on bought the upper ,would I have to register the lower as a SBR first even if I don't have a upper for it yet? This would be my first venture into this area.

you can get basic uzi mags dime a dozen in great shape- usually milsurp from germany and others. A guy on uzi talk sells them.

As far as modification for a 9mm AR i don't know about that. I uze uzi mags in my uzi..

I have an Uzi from 1988. I use my plain jane Uzi mags in my AR-15.... I use the VM Hy-Tech block. No need to make cuts in perfectly good Uzi mags. Screw the bolt hold, Uzi aint got one.

So is that the only purpose for a modification? A bolt hold open? I would've figured it had something to do with the mag release. Thanks for your input guys.

The "modified" Uzi mag is taking a std mag tube and placing a cut on the tube via mill cutter to dupe the slot found on COLT mags so the AR/M16 mag catch holds the mag

See the "COLT" notch cut at the upper rear of the mag.... and the std Uzi catch slot down below the insertion tabs...

Thanks for your response...So you like the VM block? If I got the RRA 9mm lower I would have to modify every mag I had and with the VM block I wouldn't. Seems like a no-brainer..

I have an uzi and a fair number of mags. The mags that work everytime are 25 and 32 round mags and are IMI or military contract such as the german mags. Stay away from USA mags because they are worse than junk. A feller by the name of Bocephus over at Uzitalk.com usually has the best prices on quality mags. And he is great to deal with. Good luck.

I was given a half dozen uzi mags that had a homemade 9mm AR conversion performed on them. It didn't work. They still function in my uzi but they look horrible. Make sure a knowledgeable person performs the conversion on your mags.

Do you feel dirty for paying twenty bucks per mag or for joining uzitalk?

Tell me it's the former.

So ya went an got all unfaithful on us, well jes damn.

Oh well, it's all good

Give CDNN a call for some Uzi mags, they usually got a wad of da Germans's cheap.

25 rnd hella cheap as in about 5 bucks. Sometimes they make da catalog, sometime not. When they got em, they go fast. If ya go dat route, check every mag as soon as ya get em. I've seen some surplus mags come in wit cracked feed lips. Didn't seem to affect how they run, but check em anyway.

32's I don't know cause mine been runnin good since about 1996 or so when I got my first one from FJ ;)

CDNN is probaly my best bet as I am in the same town as them.....FYI I haven't posted anything there on uzitalk ,just joined so I could check if that guy had mags up........CDNN sucks as in they only do mail order. They do not normally allow walkins, but I have a connection that is allowed to go up there and walk in....been sending him up there once a month for about the last year and a half now.

I missed out on that last bunch but Bocefus has a new bunch up now....I just got in for 5 of them ....that puts me at 10 so far....I've got some things I'm gonna be selling that will pay for me a new RRA lower (complete) Be ordering that soon....then some other parts, along with more mags, then the conversion block, then the SBR stamp and then the upper......then maybe a red dot.then maybe a suppressor with another stamp...then (it's just a never ending cycle, aint it?)
