Going to my first nationals this year. Actually my first major match of any kind. I have a ton of questions about the structure.

Should I have received confirmation and information in the mail by now?
My entry was definitely sent in on time.

If appears that there is no shooting on the registration day. Will the RO's be shooting then? Will I be able to check out the stages then?
Will I be able to check my ammo over the chronograph then, or before my shooting starts?

Will there be online self squadding like I've seen for other matches? If not, will I get notification before the match? Or find out my schedule at registration?

It seems like these types of questions are the things that bother me the most. I will feel more relaxed if I'm not running around confused.
I'm not worried about the shooting part. I just plan on having a good time and shooting MY game. No more, no less.

I don't remember getting confirmation. You can contact kim@uspsa.org & she can help you with the conf. I believe they mail something but not really early.
Not sure about the r.o.s, seems to me, they don't get to shoot the match for score at all. Yes, you can check out the stages the day before registration or the day of registration.
You will not check ammo on chrono before the match starts. At some point during the match, they come by & take some ammo from your loaded mags & put them in a bag with your name on it. When your squad goes to the chrono stage, they get your bag out, pull a bullet for weight, take your gun, shoot it, good or not. Oh yeah, they also check your safeties for function.
For some reason, online squadding is good enough for regular matches but not for the nationals. ????? You may or may not wind up on a squad with the folks you want to squad with. If you put names on your app that you want to shoot with, your odds are pretty good at being squadded with them.
Hope this has been a little help. My memory for this stuff isn't so good. It is a relatively painless process & will sort of just unfold when you get to the match. You will have plenty of time to see the stages. Don't forget to have fun!

They do mail out a confirmation and info packet (always have in the past). I'm not going this year so I don't know if they have sent one yet.

The RO's don't shoot the nationals match. Sometimes they will have a side match for them.

Will I be able to check out the stages then?

That is ALWAYS the call of the Range Master. It has always been allowed in past Nationals, but not at all other Major matches. Ask first, but plan of being allowed to look the stages over (NEVER touch a prop or activating mechanism).

Will I be able to check my ammo over the chronograph then, or before my shooting starts?

Sometimes yes and sometimes no. Don't count on it. There have been times where they had the chrono up and had it manned. You could then shoot for a small fee. (well, chrono man shoots)

Will there be online self squadding like I've seen for other matches? If not, will I get notification before the match? Or find out my schedule at registration?

A squad list will come out before the match. It will be posted on the USPSA Nationals website.

People tend to get a bit antsy when going to their first Nationals or Major match. There is nothing to worry about. Same targets. Same rules. Same this and that.

It's more like going to a range that you've never been to before.

If I were in SW MO, then I might take a drive to Tulsa for one of their regular (local) matches.

They also have a cool all steel match coming up that sound like a hoot (non-USPSA).

I have shot at USSA and am familiar with the area. That will one less thing to worry about.

I thought about shooting the Pro-Am but my schedule probably won't allow it. My brother is shooting in it, and has gone to several of the "local" Pro-Am matches. He says it is really fun.

BTW, there was an info pack in my mailbox today from USPSA.

There isn't much info in the info pack. Match hotel info (often more expensive than finding your own) and rental car discount coupons...maybe.

If you know you have a slot, make your arrangements and have at it.

Saw this, posted about a week ago on the Brian Enos Forum:

USPSA office said it would be a couple more weeks before mailing packets get sent out...

Guys, if you need hotel rooms, ask for the corporate rates at Holiday Inn Express, good rate, good room, no rif raf.

I could PM you a few names to drop and a corporate rental car discount # if interested.

Well, I've got transportation and lodging covered.
I live about an hour and a half from the range. I have lots of family around Tulsa so will probably stay at someones house. If I do decide to stay in a hotel, I can get a friends and family rate from Hampton Inn. $29 per night.
My Sister-in-law works at one about 40 miles north right on the highway.
It would be just as quick to get to the range as the match hotel.

I've stayed at that (match) hotel before. It is OK but the location sucks in relation to the range. It is located right in the middle of what is probably the worst rush hour area in Tulsa.

Thanks again for the info.

$29/night?:yikes: I pay the government/corporate rate of $79 and am happy at that!
