I've seen a machine-tool quality handle for those blue presses :biggrinjester:

but not for a Hornandy LnL AP-is there such a thing out there, and if so where??

P.S.- Sorry about all the posts, but there doesn't seem like there are a lot of new posts anyway and I'm REALLY new to this, so please bear with me...

To me the ball on my LNL or the roller handle on the 650 ,,,,, Its no big difference . I worry about the press stations and levels of primers / powder .

Hey Luke, ANeat's balls rock, get one for sure. I just sent my spare to another gent in MD, sorry.

Actually I'm working on making them for the LNL. I hope to have them in stock early this fall.

ETA: Options will be a full handle or a "piggyback" handle. The full handle is like a Dillon handle and will be a complete handle replacement. The piggyback handle will be a handle that threads onto the standard handle and have a roller function. Screw on the piggyback and get crackin.

You're developing products for the LNL? Better file my patent applications ASAP.

Just the roller handle.

I'm working with a Tech student to develop a round counter that mounts by the cartridge chute. Every time a loaded round drops out of the shell plate, it interrupts a sensor (laser or light, haven't decided), and count is displayed on a small LCD screen or analog display (like an odometer). I hope to make it so it will fit all Dillons plus the LNL AP. That probably won't be ready until mid 2009.

I might be tempted to go with a prox sensor, but hard to mount a photoeye and reflector. Either way, photoeye or prox sensor is $$$$$$ over a mechanical sensor, plus you need a power source and something to read the signal. Lose the LCD, $$$.

I don't understand the need for a counter in the first place. With a cheap kitchen or postal scale you can figure +- a few how many rounds you have. Fancier models will have a Qty function that does the calculation for you. You could even set the scale under the bin / bowl that catches your reloads. Simple, easy, done.

That looks like an improvement, but I think I want to try a full handle...

I've seen the Dillon handle, but saw somewhere a stainless handle molded to fit the swells and hollows of the hand to even out pressure. I have a genetic propensity to arthritis, and calcium deposits which would require surgery so I try to use anti-vibration gloves with power tools and try to ease repetitive-motion activities with good ergonomics when possible. The stainless piece looks like part of a professional machine tool and looks the bomb...

Hey Freak, what type of handle is on the one you're developing?

I got a used roller handle. It may even be for sale at the right price.

Koski, is the threading on the Dillon handle where it attached to the press 5/8"-18 TPI? If so, it will fit the LNL.

Here's one by Idano on www.thehighroad.org (http://www.thehighroad.org/)
http://i258.photobucket.com/albums/hh269/bhawkeye/xxxLnL_files/image035.png

I cut off the the bottom 2" of the Dillon handle; the portion that was machined down to fit in the Dillon presses. I then got 5/8" X 18 tpi die from the local tool supplier then threaded the Dillon handle it about an 1-1/2" from the bottom. This gives you enough threads to screw the handle in so that it just protrudes through the knuckle with the jam nut installed. Since you probably already don't own a Tap & Die set I would recommend taking the Dillon handle to your local machine shop along with your Hornady handle to match the threads. The threads are 5/8" x 18 Threads Per Inch (TPI)). Have them cut off the machined portion of the Dillon handle and then thread it up one and a half inches. This will give you enough threads to install the nut off the Hornady handle and be able to screw it into your press so that it just barely protrudes through the knuckle.

By the way, the LnL with the KISS bullet feeder that Aneat posted above is one of mine. Replacing the factory ball with one of Aneat's made a world of difference. :seeya:

Hey Freak, what type of handle is on the one you're developing?

I have had both types of Dillon roller handles, the metal round one (pictured above), and the shaped plastic one. I found the metal one to be a lot more comfortable then the plastic one.

Hell if I know. The threading doesn't mate with the press, just a nut on the other side of the press lug thingy.

I think he means the threads on the handle itself, the threads where the nut goes on. I cant recall what size they are. Im pretty sure there smaller, that end is necked down with a shoulder on it. It may just slide into the LNL mount.

FWIW, both the Dillon and LNL share the same 5/8"-18 TPI thread on the top end, where the ball (ANeat's) attaches.

Just found this.

Yes a Dillon roller handle will fit on a Hornady press without modification so you can switch back if you want to. The Hornady handle is threaded into the press with a 5/8" fine thread and a jam nut to lock it in. The Dillon handle is a 9/16" fine thread with a shoulder and a pair of washers to clamp into the press. The Dillon handle thread will fit through the center of the Hornady press 5/8 thread without touching. Add 3 1/2" washers to make up for the extra thickness of the Dillon press and tighten it up.

How do these bolt-on versions handle the extra torque of the roller handle sticking out to the side like that? I'd think no matter how tight you put that nut on at the bottom, you'd still have the handle slipping & rotating on you.

Cover the washers and nut with JB Weld, then shrinkwrap it.

And ya, that color mixing kind of messes with my mind a bit.

Now all that's needed is to unbolt the LM & replace it with a BLUE PRESS to match that nice handle......
