I conceal carry a glock 21sf or 26 all the time. I never really understood open carry,it lets everyone know you are packing. If you are in say a stop and rob, and a robber walks in, when he sees that gun on your side guess what, you just gave him his next gun, Or you have to deal with the mind numbing "OMG he has a gun" crowd. Open carry is legal here in Indiana but i'll stick with conceal carry.

Never carry reloads unless hunting with the rifles. Of course those are not really reloads since the components are all new.

Allways carry the 642 S&W or the Glk 27 in the summer and fall. In the winter no telling what is in the Carhart and sometimes it even surprises me. If it is a large caliber revolver it means I drank a lot or wine the night before. I do know that much.

Does HR218 limit what you can carry?
I almost always carry my duty gun so I never worried about it. But I do seem to recall reading an interpretation by the AG of a state that said basically LE could carry whatever they wanted. I was looking into if CA would let me carry the standard capacity mags under HR218. They seem to think that you can't, ten round limit.

Mr. HE:cool:
Yeah, it limits that what you carry has to be alike to what you qualified with. I guess you could make the case that a revolver is similar enough to a DAO semi in that the grip, trigger, sights and power of cartridge is similar but since we have an authorized .38 backup I just carry it or my duty gun. There really isn't much out there that I'm gonna face that needs any more than one or two .38's to be very honest.
I just don't think for a second a thug is gonna take two .38's to the chest and say, "Oh, Thats only a .38 +P and you've only got 3 more shots!".
The times I've needed it the strangest thing happens! (about 4 times) I reach in my pocket and get a grip (I keep it in a pocket holster) and without pulling it out the offender disengages like he can see it through my pocket.

Here's the text of LEOSA, 18 USC § 926B and 18 USC § 926C. Where does it restrict a current LEO to carrying what they are qualified with?
18 USC § 926B

(c) As used in this section, the term “qualified law enforcement officer” means an employee of a governmental agency who— (1) is authorized by law to engage in or supervise the prevention, detection, investigation, or prosecution of, or the incarceration of any person for, any violation of law, and has statutory powers of arrest;

I read that too. CA penal code stated that a LEO can import a hi-cap mag. The problem is that a visiting LEO from another state is not a LEO in CA unless he's on official business. So if you're on vacation, you should carry 10-rounders. But I would not worry about mags. My experience with local DAs is that they love cops no matter where they come from.

I can not carry at work (teacher) and if I printed in public and the wrong people saw it could be bad. However evertime I leave the house and am not going to work I pack. I almost always carry in a over the shoulder purse like bag (the only thing that is in the bag is the weapon). The draw is slower than from my belt scabbard. Sometimes pocket carry a 442.
Usually carry a G29. Actually, it's a daily CCW sidearm.
On car trips when my attire allows, a G34 or maybe even a 4" Highway Patrolman.
And when I think of it, I sometimes carry a 5" Gubmint 1911 cuz' the gunrags love a 1911 above all other sidearms. At one time I worried about remembering about the manual safety when carrying one, because my muscle memory is really more accustomed to DA revolvers and Glocks. But I've shot 1911s for thirty years and the minute my hand wraps around one I just know what's in my grip.
I reload for all of them, and shoot enough so that I'm very familiar with the nuances of each and every one.

Bernard Goetz - NYC, as I recall - accosted in the subway and shot several of his accosters.
Oh, all right - here's an article from a website called "heroism.org"
BERNARD GOETZ
On December 22, 1984, Bernard Goetz, otherwise known as the "subway vigilante," shot four young men in a Manhattan subway car after he said the men threatened him and tried to rob him.
The shooting became a national sensation, as many subway riders, concerned about subway muggings, applauded Goetz's actions. But others criticized Goetz as a racist because the four young men were African-American.
Three years after the shooting, Goetz, a 39-year-old electronics specialist, was acquitted of attempted murder and assault, but was convicted of criminal possession of an unlicensed weapon and spent 250 days in jail.
Goetz said he started firing because he thought the four men were about to rob him. Many suspected however, that Goetz acted as an "avenging angel" because he had been mugged twice before. The youths said they were panhandling money to play video games when they asked him for $5, not trying to rob him.
One of the four men, Darrell Cabey, was paralyzed in the shooting. In reaction to a $50 million lawauit filed by Cabey's familiy, Goetz said in a December 20, 1994 Toronto Star article, "If you're injured, paralyzed or whatever while committing a violent crime against me, that's not my fault."
After the verdict, Goetz' lawyer Barry Slotnick said, "I think the true message is that people have a right to protect and defend themselves under justifiable situations." Goetz said he wants to "go back to being an anonymous stranger in New York," said Slotnick in a June 17, 1987 Toronto Star article.
Supporters and critics argued outside the courthouse immediately after the verdict. Anti-Goetz demonstrators chased his car, shouting, "Goetz is an oppressor, murder no more." Another man carried a sign, "Criminals, think twice or we will Goetz you."

Bernie Goetz is the "subway vigilante". He shot four dudes that were trying to rob him in a subway car in NYC, 1984. The mistakes he made were that he didn't kill the bastards, he spoke to the police before his lawyers, and he spoke with the press.

I am rarely in a place I can legally carry. My workplace forbids it, and most places I eat serve alcohol (in Ohio, that's a no-carry zone).
As much as i hate the laws and the policies, I won't risk being caught and charged with illegally concealing a weapon. My criminal record is completely blank, and I want it to stay that way.

I don't want to preach, but I got my truck broken into at work and I lost a gun, luckly it was a cheap keltec P11 but if you don't have a lock box get one. :zoo_taz:
I got broken into a second time I assume the thief hoping I got another gun in my truck, he did see the lock box and attempted to take it.
What really sucks is each time the asshole breaks into my truck he damages the body and breaks my door handle... :hereyago:
at my work a few people have had their catalytic converter stolen in a full parking lot and during the day... The security staff is useless.

I've been hauling around some kind of retroactive birth control device for over 30 years. Legally, too. Anyone in CA who doesn't carry is asking to be a victim. I ignored several hundred PPKs, Chief Specials, DetSpecs, and other assorted armament carried by tax-paying law-abiding God-fearing child-raising decent folks that I worked for, and made a point of recommending good ammunition at the times I located the pistols. I'll be G-- d---ed if I'd EVER arrest a good citizen for carrying the means to defend him- or herself from the attackers I couldn't keep off of them.

Since the CCW went thru, at least 20+ years. Before that I had a wallet of Blue cards, one for each gun. Only problem is don't get caught with one at work (HR takes a dim view of employees that can defend themselves in the office), and I carry in my vehicle in the paking lot, we don't have any of those stupid laws in Georgia. We also updated our Castle Doctrine to in Public you do not have to flee someone trying to do hard to you. We also can now carry on public transit, eventhough I don't and won't use it. Too many target opportunities. Have just switched over to the new DPX type of Ammo from Hydro's. After another 1500 rounds on my new G35, it will go into rotation with my other two that I use depending on what I am wearing and where I am going. Yes some things work better than others when you are wearing a Tux or Jeans and a Pullover shirt.

Let me tell ya ll a little story about the ONE time I decided NOT to tote.
This further reinforces my belief that if you are going to TOTE, then TOTE. Don't leave home without it!
A Friend of mine was going through a nasty divorce and wanted to give me his rather nice bedroom furniture because he didn't want to move it. He had already got an apartment and was separated from his lunatic wife.
I didn't wear my gun because it was hot, I sweat like a pig and I was going to be moving furniture up two flights of stairs.
So I get there and lo and behold PSYCHO bitch shows up and starts raising cain. Since my friend is there with his girlfriend, she freaks out and jumps on her pulling her hair and punching her in the face. My friend, knocks her off and she runs down the stairs towards her car. I was certain that she was running to get a gun and kill us all.
I run to my truck, open the door and pull my HK.45 out from under the seat and the worst case scenario is going thought my mind. I wasn't about to let her go up there and kill them and the situation was looking grim.So I stand at my truck to see what happens. She starts unload the stuff in the back of his truck and throwing boxes full of stuff all over the place.
Lucky for us all, she didn't produce a gun, instead choosing to play the loud obnoxious crazy woman part that had the neighbors calling 911. So the Cops came and asked us what was up. I had to file a report as well as my friend, as we are both county officers. Since it involved us both, they took it up with the Sheriff and turned it over to him. It all came out well but I learned one important lesson.
You'll never know when you might need that gun. If you did, you'd want to carry a shotgun or a rifle if you knew you had to use it.
Even in the most seemingly harmless situations, carry the gun.
As of now, I dont leave home without it. I'd rather have it and not need it, rather than needing it and not having it. That sucks. Totally.

I wish I could carry at work. Working in the behavioral health field with unstable criminals always presents potential problems. Especially when I discharge some on non-compliance with treatment issues then, since it's always someone else's fault with majority of this population, some will blame us at the agency I work for. It ain't happened but the ingredients are always present for a bad cocktail.

Well, it's not legal here in the Democratik Peoples Republik of Corruption to carry.....
That said, when I feel a need,(works out to about 40% of the time:hideingbhindcurtian) it's a G27 w/Gold Dots, in the Gunshop it's always my G29 w/Silvertips & ALWAYS my Cold Steel "Gunsite Tanto" in the 5" flavor.
Had people at work see the CS & ask "Is that LEGAL?"
I respond "I have yet to see ANY jurisdiction that would not consider this to be, legally, a knife".
That usually ends the stupid questions.
If & when we get CCW here in Ill, it will be my G29 in a Galco Concealable.
I wear that in the shop, hidden by a t-shirt & only the customers that know me realise that I'm carrying.
