308 through a 30-06?

Think the guy even noticed?

Scrounging some brass off the rifle benches yesterday morning, came across the case on the right where some milsurp 308 was. There were a couple 30-06 in the batch & when I looked in the garbage can there was more 30-06 along with the box.

Obviously someone fired a 308 round through their 30-06 bolt gun. Is this something that would make you notice when you fired it?

They make an adapt-o-matic chamber bushing that makes a 308 fit an 06 . Maybe day was confuses .

Careful, those inserts have been known to come out underfire, best to rebarrel.

Wasn't there a post on GT where you could buy an insert to make a 308 or 30-06 into a 7.62x39? Everyone said that was just a bad idea; the whole bullet being bigger than the barrel thing.

If you are going to get an insert to shoot .308 thru your '06, get the one that was made for the U.S. Navy.
They had a boatload (bad pun) of Garands & used inserts to utilize 7.62x51 NATO ammo.
They will come out, with a broken shell extractor, some Kroil, a bit of muscle power & a lot of cursing. They expand on the first shot, locking them in the chamber.
Numrich (Gun Parts) might have them yet, they aren't as readily avaliable as they were a few years back, but they do still exist.
That .308 fired in a .30-06 chamber looks like a .22 Jet fired in a .357 mag !
