My mechanics were cleaning out one of our shop bays and found this. The lead ingots weigh 5 # each. The other 2 ingots are about 4 # each, are a brighter metal, gouges easily with a screwdriver. I took a propane torch to the corner of one and it melts like lead. My guess is it's solder, seems like a tin/lead mix of some sort. Any ideas as to what it might be?
I don't do any casting (time constraints, otherwise I would), so would anybody be interested in trading on this? I'm needing .380 auto brass. Maybe it's not worth the effort since there's about 20 # of shipping costs.

Where are you located? Load it up in a FRB, set a price, and someone may want it. What kind of shop do you have.

I would say your ideas are spot on from the pics. Like the Pit-man said, Its worth something. Depending on the tin/lead ratio figure a buck a pound shipped. Flat rate would be $10.00 to ship.
If I had some 380 brass I would trade.
You ever come across any Wheel Weights??

I don't usually see any wheel weights in my shop. Lot's of steel & iron, no lead!

ok this looks like what me grand daddy used to fix dents in cars back in the day. they use to use lead instead of body filler. Only his lead was thinner but looked like this. Is this from an old body shop?

The previous owner was a contractor who designed and built foundations for large structures, bridges, etc. He also designed and made wrought iron stuff as a side hobby and made neon signs. I'm sure the lead/solder had something to do with his business or maybe his hobbies. It's the only quanitity of alloy I've found. I've been in the building over 10 years, and once in a while something still turns up!

I was gonna suggest that too...It's almost getting to be a lost art.

gokyo,
I could use as much .380 as you think is fair to trade with. I'll take as much as you would want to let go.
