Friend from another board and fellow subgun shooter got his DILLON 650 Friday. :cheers2:

Going to help him tomorrow (Sunday) finish set-up and get him loading 9x19 147gr ammo for use with his Max-11 and suppressor.

From there if he change to 115gr or 124gr, all he really has to do is re-set his powder charge, and maybe a minor bullet seat adjustment.

EDIT TO ADD -- Sunday Aug 17 : Problem with new 650 --

Went to his place in Richmond - IN, got the dies and powder set up for him, and when priming, the primers clip the edge of the pocket, leaving little "smilies" of brass in the primer tray where unused primers roll out.

Further inspect looks like when the shell plate detent and primer punch holes is not properly timed, as the punch appears off center to the shell holder. About every other primer would make a crunch kind of sound when installing, and even had a bunch that was mangled, this was with WIN, R-P, S&B, and FC.

Has anybody seen or heard of the #5 (9mm) shell plate or platform being out of time ?

Smart move. Best way to go for a subgun. What 147 grain bullet you guys using?

I been using Precision Delta since May 2007, 4000 of them loaded so far.

Chad bought (1000) to start with, he had his in a couple days (earlier this past week).

Got a bunch of 115 grainers from them. Hope to load up a bunch of them real soon.

See edit in first post, his is having problems, though he will call DILLON Monday.

Mine runs smoother than his currenly, so I know he has something wrong.

BTW, Precision Delta appear to be slipping with quality on the 147gr .355 bullets.

In Chads 1000ct box, I found 2 nose profiles, and a .010 bullet length sread over a handfull of bullets.

Random sample showed a 1.2 grain spread so far, I can live with that for subgun steel plate ammo.

Update -- Thanks to Mogollon through a PM, and Chad calling Dillon himself, and Chad and I on the phone, the problem priming the cases with the primers nipping the edge of the primer pocket appears to have been a combonation of 2 things..

1 - he was advised to adjust the shell plate via the block under left of platform, that got the puch centered with the shell plate opening.

2 - an adjustment to the stainless finger that acts as locator at station #2, I was on phone w/Chad and we were compaing notes with my press and his, and concluded that the arm was not holding pressure on the case to hold it in the shell plate. He has posted that he made a multi case primer run, and all the cases primed cleanly, no more primers nipping the primer pocket.

I think he as got it going good now, so he can settle down and get through the learning process of first time loader starting with a 650, I'll likely know more tonight.

I had a little problem with mine when I started. The primers seemed to be hitting on the edge of the primer plate and getting hung up and jamming before reaching the point where the primer was inserted into the brass. When I took it apart I found some little burrs on the primer plate where the holes had been drilled. Simple fix. I took a primer pocket tool and chamfered the holes just a little bit and it took care of it.
