I was reloading last night. Packed three hundred 223.
Tonight I went out to the freezer to get some fast dinner. I just went out to my bench and noticed that my powder measurer was empty.
Competely empty. Not a grain.
I just finished weighing 500 223 bullets. I had 50 that where 1.60 grams lighter than the others and one that was 0.70 grams light.
I plan to buy a Low powder sensor tonight at Sportsmans Ware house.

Well I have been reloading pistol callibers for the last few months. I guess i was not prepared for how fast rifles cartridges go through the powder.
Also the 650 is so insanely fast. I have been doing reloading therapy and I guess things are a little more insane in my life then even my bench can fix.

What powder were you using? By my calculations, you were 24.64 grains light in the 1.6 gram shorts, and 10.78 grains light in the .7 gram short.
.1 gram = 1.54 grains. Might be a good way to get a ballpark figure, but seems a bit coarse for deciding "pull or don't pull".

That is scary. Pay close attention. This is also a good story for me to remember when I start reloading rifle.

You can hear the powder in .223, pick each one up and rattle it. If you hear the powder, shoot it, if you don't here the powder, pull it.

last rifle I loaded was my .375 H&H.....
Talk about emptying a measure fast !
Had to use a special routine on the 550, the powder measure wouldn't throw a full charge in one dump.
Cut the charge in half & then "double charged" each case.
No danger of overcharge, a 3rd pull of the handle would dump powder all over everything.

That's why I have come back from a few hunting trips a few sock tops short.

IMO, you don;t need a gimick like the low powder sensor. Just refill your measure when you refill your primers. You'll have used about 1/2# after 100rds.:yesnod:

I had something similar this week.
I couldn't remember what kind of powder I had in my powder dispenser.
Almost had to pour out about half a powder measure full. The good news was I knew it was either WSF or Longshot and after taking some test samples for comparison I figured it out.

I was just thinking about my 550's and realized that I have the low powder sensor on the small primer pistol press only. I don't have one on the rifle press.
Never ran out of power though.
When I'm loading stuff I want really accurate I keep the powder hopper within about 1/8th of the same level. They say it can make the charges thrown more consistant. It just means adding a little powder lots of times.
