So now I confess to you that I've purchased factory ammo.

And even worse, I've purchased factory ammo, in calibers that I reload.

I purchased 100 9mm rounds and 50 45acp rounds.

Forgive me. I will say this in my defense. The rounds were for some else's machine guns. And I came home with a bunch of brass and a huge grin on my face!!!

I think that is OK. I don't think I would run my reloads through someone else's gun anyway...just to be safe...

Agreed. A MG is a bit expensive to be blowing up.

Now with that said, automatic weapons are great, almost as great as a night with Jenny in Lenny's avatar.

I buy factory ammo a lot for the brass. Its almost cheaper to buy loaded ammo than to just buy the virgin brass. Go figure.

What calibers do you shoot?

I get all the 9mm, .45 and .30-06 brass of the ground I need. The only brass I've ever traded for was 30 Carbine.

380, 40, 45, 223, 243, 30-06

380, 40, and 9s line the ground on the range
45 are picked up the moment they hit the ground, i got into a fight with a guy over my brass, he thought when it hits the ground, its his. If only the world worked like that.
223 can be found if you look hard enough
243 is basically bolt only and a reloaders cartridge
30-06 i've never seen it on the range, i did get 20 rounds from a guy once

I shoot at a private range, I'd say about 3/4 of the people reload so brass is hard to come by.

It's OK. Just pull the bullets and alter the powder charge or OAL. That way you can call them handloads, technically.

There's your problem. You have to go to a non reloading public range.

I've got lots of .30-06 LC and HXP on public ranges, some comm too. I would offer to send you some '06, but with surplus drying up, I'm not trading any '06. Same with .45. At the private clubs, those guys are all picking up their brass.

I've given away all my .40 and .223 already. If I stumble into a lot, I'll send it to you.

Not that you would know about doing that...

I just bought some dies for 40, but I've seen saving brass. I've been hoarding 223 brass lately. I just bought an AR15 lower and am going to buy a Del-ton kit soon. I got about 500 rounds of Lake City brass for my Garand, so I think I'm good, but thank you for the offer.

The problem here is that the public ranges charge $8/hr. It gets expensive really quick. Plus, I don't like my head being swept multiple times with a loaded gun.

Understood. I do most of my shooting at a private club, we don't have any problem with rif raf.

I do frequent some state land in MI where the machine gun guys hang out, talk out free brass. Sometimes, you'll get rif raf out there, like the folks who thought smoking weed and possessing firearms was alright or some of the folks who act like they're trying to hide something (hint: felons). I some times wish I had powers of arrest, but those few are the minority.

Somehow I think this kinda relates:

I was at the gunshop a few days ago. This gangster wanna be drops a mag on the counter and asked "how much for a clip full of 9s." I've heard stories of this happening, but to see it made my day. The gun shop sold him a box of bullets, I would have shown him the door.

I reload 9 - 38spcl - 45acp - 222 - 223 - 308

I used to buy the fty amo and kept the brass long before I started reloading.
The 9 and 45 I find more then enough at the range , once fired. The rest I have.

I never ever paid for brass as is , just shot the amo and kept the brass...

Like most of us anyway !

Unless the guy's a reloader, he won't be able to do much with a box of bullets. :biggrinjester:

I think hanging around machine gun guys is a great way to get brass. Those MACS spit out shells like crazy and the guy nice enough to let me shoot his guns doesn't reload.

He says, "I only reload 40 mike mike".

In MI you can make a citizen's arrest for a felony.

You ever done that?

Yes. I was a bounty hunter/recovery dude for a little over a year when I first moved up here. The only work I could find. Mix of bail jumpers and we did repos and such. Made over 40 arrests, only got stabbed once, with an ice pick. Got a cute '+' scar from the two stitches. Haven't done anything for well over a year.

Helped a cop run down an escaping suspect. Teens broke into the building across from my work. The officer had three of them against the wall and was trying to cuff one. The teen to his left was shifting his weight back and forth, and I knew he was going to run, so I started walking outside. Then he bolted. Caught up with him after three blocks. Tackled him. He resisted. My fist was hurt while subduing the suspect. Officers came and cuffed him. I made a statement, got a thanks, that was that.

If I saw some **** going down and I didn't have my son with me, I'd stop it. With my son along, I'd be a good witness.

At my range there aren't too many reloaders - at least when I go there. We have a lot of new shooters blasting away with new M&P 9s & 40s, and XD45s. Last trip I didn't see a single Glock the whole time.

It's like free brass heaven.

its ok to buy factory ammo as long as you re-use the brass. ;)

I'm not sure if possession of marijuana and firearms is a felony in MI, doesn't affect me in the least, never bothered to look it up. I know possession of firearms while being a prohibited person is a felony, under both state and federal law. However, even though a person may look and act like a felon, without being sure the guys a felon, I think it would be unwise to intervene.

If they were committing a violent felony, I would have to step in to prevent the loss of life. These folks were armed with at least with one rifle and multiple handguns. I had on person a G17 and a couple other handguns. I just packed up and left, let the sheriffs' office deal with them.

Most of the people I see out on the state land are law abiding. I've been shooting in the same spot for 3 years, since I started being in MI regularly, and have only had two incidents. Every once in a while, you'll catch some of the guys out there with the MGs, talk out fun (and very honest/law abiding people).

I would think so, but don't know. Use caution for sure.
