I was at the range yesterday and while "looking" in the brass bucket I found several nickel cases marked "Federal 38 Spcl + P".

This is the first time I see the "+P" mentionned on a case !

Is this type of cases to be reloaded the same way I reload all my 38 Spcl or do I HAVE to load more powder to have more pressure build up ?
I am not a +P shooter/reloader. I ususaly load the minimum or just above .

+P marked cases are common here. load them like you load any other case.

In 38 Special, +P cases are exactly the same as standard non +P cases. Also in 9x19mm the +P cases are exactly the same as standard pressure 9mm cases. In 45 ACP the +P cases are thicker and have less case (powder) capacity. Load 38 spcl +P cases just like standard 38 spcl cases.

I have to cull out one brand of .38 Special +P because it does not like to go through the seating and crimping die. Sorry I can't remember what headstamp it is, but I will check when i get home. It WILL go, but you have to really lean on the handle and it feels like I'm beating up the press. The nickle +P goes through without any problems at all, except the nickle cases seem to be the first to split. At least it works that way for me.

Most of my 38 +P brass is a little thicker.

Most of my 38 +P brass is a little thicker.

I have not measured but by holding them and squeezing them and watching them flex,I would tend to agree.

I think the +P mark is just there to keep from getting them mixed up with "P" rounds. I separate them out specifically to use for +P loads.

I also have some "+P+" marked cases.

I can't tell any difference with same brand 9mm +P but there have been certain brands on 38 Spcl +P that seem "harder" or maybe thicker/heavier. It's a very slight difference. Not the 45 ACP +P difference.
