and it really is a bridgeport this time. he lighted a g22 slide for me, 2nd slide he's done for me. going to use it for a 9mm race gun for my wife. i hope he sees this and post pics since i'm not smart enough to do it.

Hi Ede, glad the slide arrived Ok. I did get some pics, Ill have to get them transfered over top the photobucket than I will get them posted.
One thing that suprised me about the G22 slide was how much thicker it was towards the front of the slide compared to say a 9mm slide. Almost twice as thick compared to my G17 slide. :yikes:
If a guy really wanted to go wild I think quite a bit more could be removed without sacrificing any longevity.
the caspian slide is lightened already. the factory slides in 9mm are like the .40 slides. i'm thinking the caspian was .062" less than the stock slides. i had thought about taking a cutter to the inside and removing some metal before poking the holes in it but i was afraid that might be asking too much of you.

Well I certainly could have done it. I hadnt really noticed the difference till I put the holes in the sides, I thought, "man that looks thicker than the Caspian"
BTW that was the first "Glock" slide that Ive cut on and you were right about the coating. Takes a bit of pressure even with a solid carbide cutter to break thru it. Really pretty impressive stuff

Here is Ede's Caspian slide I lightened up before. Slick I think you may have missed the news of my transition from one machine to another posted on "another" forum.
Id be glad to move to TX, weather has got to be better than here, We get a foot of snow:prrr: then its 60 degrees.
Ill get the pics of the G22 slide up later.
Mullah till I get another lathe I be out of the "Ball" business. :yikes:

Can you lighten my G20 slide. Wait, forget it. I still want to be able to shoot it. I need that extra mass to keep the recoil from making me cry.

Can you lighten my G20 slide.
Yes; just let me know when youre ready :patriot:
Here is Ede's G22 Slide, lowered ejection port and placed holes per his spec.

Question...
now that you have reduced the mass of the slide, will the slide velocity need to be adjusted by reducing the spring tension, or is it not enough weight reduction to matter?
if it didn't matter i wouldn't of bothered doing it. depending on how it runs i'll most likely use a 12 or 11 pound spring. it's going to be a 9mm comped gun. untill you get the load working the comp and the springs working with the slide and comp it's sort of hard to figure out. you need a load making a lot of gas to make the comp work, the comp also takes away from the slide wanting to work so less mass = faster slide speed. when it all comes together it's great. this one ought to be easy, i already figured out a 9mm comped glock along with a .40.

Adam,
NICE Bridgeport!!!
Last one I worked on the guy before me destroyed the brake, tried to shift gears while in motion and broke the autofeed... Needless to say, I'm glad I don't work there anymore.

Guys that can do a good job on metal fabrication amaze me. I have just limited skills and no tools. I've borrowed a friend's tools before, and I can only do real basic fabrication.

It's all about speeds and feeds. Speeds and feeds.
adam did another slide for a G17 race gun for GSSF. no pics but it's the most radical of all of them. instead of a few holes in the side i have a long slot on each side, the top opened up like a G34, removed .060" off the top of the slide from the ejection port back to the dove tail, and took a small cut on the left side of the slide from the port back. i'd shot it playing with loads but not sighted in the CMore but it works good and feels good. getting a comped gun running right and working out the ejection issues with a mount and CMore is a a great learning experience.

Thanks guys, The Bridgeport is another hobby of mine, anything I can "legally" do just ask, I work pretty cheap.
CD, I fix machines so I get to see the results of guys tearing stuff up every day.
Some guys just have the touch when it comes to tearing stuff up.
