Hey all,

just bought 1K of Missouri's 180gr .40S&W hard cast "boolits" to try out. Anyone load these over UNIQUE powder?

I'm currently running 5.7gr's of UNIQUE under 180gr Zero & Montana Golds right now. I like the load and they recently chrono'd around 933fps (about 168 PF).

I'm wondering if anyone else runs hard cast over UNIQUE for the .40 and what their experience with these bullets are?

Thanks,
Z-

I don't shoot 40, but I use Unique for most of my lead loads in other calibers...

I have a Local caster that Makes "Hardcast" bullets.
I shoot 3.8gr of Unique under a 180gr Bullet. This ran 750-780ish over my Chrono. This Load Drops the Brass a few feet away. Very Soft for a .40,NOT quite a 9mm type recoil but you get the idea. That load used to be my "Plinker" Load till I got hooked on WSF.

i'm using missouri's softballs in my 45 right now. I used unique in them as well. they shoot fine. Had a minor leading issue, but figgered out it was too much powder. Backed it down a bit and there's been no leading since. I found that the lead can't take the same velocities as the plated stuff, but they shoot just as accurate with the lighter loads. Makes it easier to find my brass too as it doesn't fly as far!

I get good to excellent accuracy with Unique with most cast bullets (.40). I imagine your bullets will work well too. Anywhere from 3.5 grains up to 6ish grains, depending on your taste for velocity and recoil.

Ref Post #3:
I looked at My Log today,3.8gr of Unique Pushed an Avg. of 720fps with a 180gr Lead Bullet.

I'm using Missouri bullets in 9mm. They are the125 gr. with 4.5 of unique. It is a soft load and very accurate. I haven't had any problems with leading.

Forgot to add...I'm looking to run these "hard cast" bullets at MAJOR loads. My current is 5.7gr's of Unique under a 180gr Zero FMJ bullet (or Montana Gold FMJ) at 1.128" OAL.

I chrono'd them the other night and they ran about 933fps.

Wondering if I may get leading at this velocity with the hard cast.....

Probably not, depending on your barrel/bullet fit. I've run cast bullets at 1250 fps with no problems.
