View Full Version : S&W N-Frame Replacement Grips??

I'm looking for replacement grip suggestions for an N-Frame S&W with a rounded butt. The skimpy Altamont wood things that come on a M-21 are OK if you add a T-Grip adapter like in the photo below - but they are strictly an add-on. I'd prefer a pair of nice wood stocks or rubber grips slightly larger than what I've got on there now, but not as bulky as the full "coke bottle" S&W stocks or the large N-frame Pachmayrs or Hogues.

Pachmayr makes a "Compac Professional" grip that is smaller in size and leaves the backstrap exposed - but they don't offer it in N-frame size.

Any suggestions?

lots of choices here:

the hogues mentioned earlier were stock on my 629, very comfortable. I used the gun as a backup in my hog eradication campaign of 06-07 and put crimson trace laser grips on it, have been thinking of looking for something else for the help of it too.

@ajax, you could even bling that thing:

Thanks fellows!

Ajax is a semi-local company to me and I've gazed at their vast selection at the gun shows where they mostly inventory the big-movers. They tell me that they sell a lot of the pearlite for all makes and models, but I've rarely seen a set on a handgun - most of 'em must all be hiding in the underwear drawer.

I've examined the JM-type stocks and that's more what I'm looking for. They're contoured just about right for what I want - but they're 3/4"-1" too long, IMO. I'm not at all opposed to sawing 'em off and refinishing.

Hogues are OK, too. I prefer them over all models offered by Pachmayr for the N-frame.

Gad! The hurling smiley is both distracting and disgusting!

Look into Hogue wood grips. They feel great in the hand, better than practically any other wood grip. And they are slimmer than any other wood offering.

I have a set of laminated camo Hogues on my Highway Patrolman. Sorry about the poor pic quality...

(I really need to get some better photos of that revolver......)

Yeah, and they make them with and without finger grooves.

Hogue's Ultra Compact Bantam grip stocks may be close to what I'm looking for. I've never seen any of these "in person", though.

Thanks for the info.

Okay, I tried to get a quick snapshot of that revolver with better results. It's not good work, but it was a rush job this afternoon and it is a little bit better.

nitesite,

Those really are fine looking handgun "stocks". I hesitate to call them grips since they're so wonderfully crafted of wood.

Prior to me posting this question, I thought all Hogue grips were now made of rubber material because that's all you see in the stores around here. Hogue has an interactive site where you can view a revolver or autopistol similar to your own and change the various wood materials and stock designs. I see that they offer your stocks as in the photo, with a single finger groove, and without finger grooves - plus checkering if you want it!

+1 I have a set on my Model 19 and they are very nice. Mine are made out of some exotic wood but I cant remember the name but are the same model grips.

For the round butt N frame, try the X frame grip - it is cushioned on the backstrap and is especially nice on the Mountain guns.

I bought a set of the S&W JM stocks from killarbb - just the size and shape I was looking for. They are nice and thin like some of the older uncheckered Herrett stocks. I haven't shot the gun with 'em installed yet, but I'm certain they'll handle well with my loads.

It won't be long before my wood rasps come out and I remove those "JMs" and the cheezy lightning bolts - reminds me of the silly Thunder Ranch logos.
