A friend of mine has a pile of manzanita wood he wants me to come pick up to use for smoking. For some reason my brain says I leared something as a kid about burning manzanita gives off some sort of poison. My brain is at best, slightly retarded, so have any of you heard the same thing?

Also, he wants me to take a pile of grape wood. He actually owns a vineyard. Anybody know if this is good for smoking?

IIRC, smells like ****, prolly cause it takes so long to dry out. Never heard of it, lots of it growing here. Mayhap it could work? Never heard about any toxicity either. They used to go all crazy picking it up and varnishing it for interior decorating pieces. And bird perches...

For a real treat, try some Palo Verde someday...(not)

Heard of grapevine wood use, but never witnessed it done.
