Aren't those evil black rifles?

Why would you want one?

Certainly not for any sporting purpose.

Ironically, I held one today. All German except for the receiver which is a Century Arms. Personally, they do nothing for me as they do not shoulder well for me. I used to see 'em by the boatload in Latin America, the real G3's in fugly green. The German ones are however great battle rifles IF they shoulder well for you. The best modern battle rifle I ever shouldered was the Steyr AUG. It shoulders like an ergonomic extension of your body.

Depends upon what you call sportin.

I like em myself. They a run an run an run till ya run outta ammo.

Easy ta work on, simple ta strip an clean, not bad accuracy wise for what they are

E&L makes a stock extension dat works real good. You can add up to 3" length, which I hafta do in order to be able to get a decent sight picture.

I like Aug's too, nice an light. Lotta folks never tried a USR, but I like them better than the A2 Augs by a long shot. Better optics and the 20" barrel is just right (IMO).

I had a Bushy Bullpup style AR that sucked like crazy, sold it after a couple a light range trips, just couldn't get used to it. Fella I sold it to still got it an seem ta like it real well.

I fell in love with the HK91 back when Guns and Ammo ran an article about assault weapons (back before this term was political incorrect), just never had enough money to justify the cost that they have achieved.
Might as well jump into the Big Fifty game

Dont know if true or not, but I heard they were notorious for chewing up brass real bad.

Mine bent brass something fierce and flung it a LONG way. The ejection port buffer made it kinder to the brass, but it would fail to eject often enough to annoy me.

My HK-91 was accurate as all get-out. Feed it good bullets (Sierra 150 or 168 MK HPs), and it would approach 1 MOA consistently. I think paid $429 for it at B+B Sales in North Hollywood (R.I.P.) in the early 1980s, and kept it until the Cal-Gestapo got froggy over the EBR thing.

The "problem" with any high-volume 308 is that they get costy to run. A 200-round session is just getting started with the HK, the FAL, or the M1A. When I was making bank on OT doing the drug lab circuit, all was well--once I returned to the real world of robbery/homicide and overtime wasn't so decadent, kids needing braces took priority over war toys and ballistic recreation. I do have a close friend in NV who has run his M1A with cast bullets quite reliably and accurately, so after the price of purchase is hurdled I could run one pretty cheaply. Fun toys, but bolt and lever rifles are my real passion. We'll see, in other words.

Is that the B&B gunshop made famous in the LAPD BofA shootout?

Anyone have the full video of that shootout ? I've seen a few clips, but would like a copy of the whole thing to check out.

Discovery runs it every once and a while, I haven't seen the complete video on the net.

Right now I can't seem to find a torrent of it but I'll keep looking around.

99--

The very same B+B, indeed.

My agency had a similar take-over bank shot in May 1980 in the City of Norco. In that event, the robbers got mobile and the pursuit disabled 33 police cars and resulted in the death of one deputy and two suspects. We picked up 2700 pieces of brass along I-15 over the route taken by the suspects during their flight and the resulting pursuit.

There were no patrol rifles back in those days, we had no SWAT teams, and my agency kinda got their ass kicked. LASD SWAT sorted out the suspects in Devore, and one San Bernardino SD deputy (McPheron) did some fine work with an AR-15 to scatter the four suspects who were "walking fire" toward the line of police cars stopped behind them. It was during this time that Dep. Jim Evans of Riverside SD was killed, and McPheron's work with the AR-15 saved a lot of lives.

An event like the Norco or North Hollywood shootouts profoundly affects an agency's way of doing business, and the "patrol rifle" concept adoption throughout the LEO community was greatly influenced by incidents like the Norco, North Hollywood, Columbine, and Virginia Tech shootings.

Wow, learn something new everyday, never heard of the Norco shootout before now.

Same MO with automatic weapons? Given this, I wonder why LAPD was so surprised in 97? I wonder why you always hear about the BofA and FBI Mamai shootouts and not the one from Norco?

Sorry to hear two fine men gave their lives. If there's one bright side to the BofA shootout, no one was killed.

I'm still surprised given the "mass shootings", though few and far in between, more departments don't issue rifles and make rifles in larger caliber than .223 available to the rank and file.

Bout all the cars here have a 12ga and AR in them. Some places I hear only allow one AR on the streets at a time for some reason. A buddy of mine is a deputy and on SWAT and he carries his personal 14" barreled full auto AR with him as his long gun. Against a person I don't think I'd ever feel outgunned with a .223 in the ranges that the popo deal with. If I was in the desert fighting Hadji then give me a M14 please.
