Any one here used this system (http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=243419) for removing copper and/or lead?

If so, how does it work? Is it worth it? :seeya:

I have. Not worth it unless you have a very rough bore. Sweets 7.62 will get everything out in a short order from 90% of firearms.

+2. The foul out can be built from a flash light easily, should you decide you need to have it.

Yeah, I was considering building one, sort of like this (http://www.frfrogspad.com/copclean.pdf), but didn't know if the technique worked well enough to be worth the trouble. :seeya:

ps - most of you may already have seen this page on homemade firearms cleaners & lubricants. (http://www.frfrogspad.com/homemade.htm)- I thought it had some interesting stuff for us CRB'ers, but haven't tried any of it yet.

I was talking to a fella last week that has one. According to him, it's the ONLY way to get everything out of the bore.

So far, chemicals and elbow grease have kept me and my guns goin'.

Bob,

I've used a flashlight, solder some leads to it, connected it to a mild steel rod, and mixed up a solution and poured it down the bore. Worked well enough. I'm not at home, I'll see if I can dig out my notes and email them to you.

When I get hold of a new (to me) hand gun that I plan on shooting lead through, I'll use the foul out to get all the copper out of the bore. I find I have much less leading this way, seems to get it cleaner than Sweet's or Shooters Choice.

A friend of mine purchased one to clean a .22/250 and a swift. When you looked down the barrel you'd swear you couldn't get anything more out (copper fouling) After running the Foul Out the rod came out covered with copper. This guy wasn't a newbie, he knew how to clean guns, he almost fell over backward when he used the rod for the first time.

Best $$$ I've ever spent on any cleaning device. For day to day cleaning I use the standard oils/cleaners/love potion of the day, but when I really need to clean a gun, I use the Foul Out.

Now, the reason I got the Foul Out system originally was becasue I had a gun with a rough bore that was an almight ***** to clean. The FO took care of it easily, without all the scrubbing.

I read that S&W uses the same "technology" - electrolysis - to do the rifling on all their handgun barrels, bigger than 22 cal.

I know it uses a lot higher current - but is their any worry about etching the barrel with the currents used by the outers unit, or the "hommade" units?

Yes, either unit can etch a barrel. Be very careful.

Yes, don't hook the unit up and then walk away and forget about it, it will damage your barrel if the solution runs dry. I use a timer and it usually takes about an hour to get a very leaded gun clean. If you have cleaned it with a Choreboy first, it takes about 1/2 an hour.
