Went to the range yesterday to my actually compare the .300 Whisper that I built, along with the Form 1 can, to a high dollar commercial built gun that cost around 2500 bucks.

This guy, a friend of mine and the Training Seargant on the Sheriff Dept that I am with, had stated that his suppressed .308 Remington 700 was far and above the quietest shooting gun ever made.

I knew that mine was pretty quite, but I also know that hearing a gun fire suppressed one day and comparing it to a gun that you heard shoot a few days before is a purely subjective thing, and open to much speculation.

So,to lay aside any doubt, we got the guns out, shooting from the same postition and at targets that were side by side,, but this time we were using a Sountronics sound meter held at a 3 foot distance from the muzzle and perpendicular to the bore of the rifle.

He shot first. and I will admit that this gun was pretty danged quiet. His barrel was integrally suppresed, being a 12 barrel length with a 1 and 1/4 tube over it until it passed the forearm where it expanded to an inch and a half.

And average of 15 shots showed 113 db's, For those that arent familiar with numbers, snapping your fingers smartly would register around 115 or so. Still all in all, not a bad shooting gun. He was shooting a 180 grain roundnose bullet.

Then it was my turn.

Success !:patriot:

My home boy can which I built using a monolithic baffle stack, on a Remington 700 that I blueprinted, rebarreled with a match grade Shilen barrel that I chambered and fitted up to the gun abd nounted with a 4x14 tacticool Leupold scope registered 110 db and shot a much tighter group.

Since its mostly the shooter that is responsible for the group, that really didnt come as much of a suprise. He dosent shoot near as much as I do, so the group size wasnt really an indication of anything, other than the fact that I am a better shot, but we already knew that.

So the bull shucks stopped right there at the sound meter and bragging rights are mine. Now when I see him, I naturally stick out my chest and go into the John Wayne swagger, but only when other people are around to enjoy...
I dont have to say anything, but everyone knows who is at the top of the pecking order.

Some things are better than money. Winning bragging rights is one of them.:2gunsfiring_v1:

Built a complete rifle as well, dat's cool as hell!

Do you fireform .221 Fireball brass or .223 Remington?

.221 Fireball seems to be non existant around here so I use .223 brass.
