Any body have problems with 9mm primers reinserting themselves after the sizing die. Dillon told me to round off the decapping pin. This did little if any good. Any ideas?

First, make sure if ya use a liquid cleaner of any form on ya brass it is dried before storing. Sometimes a wet pocket a make primers a lil bit sticky,

If rounding off the decap pin doesn't help much, square it off a little.

What happens is the primer is a lil bit sticky, the decap pin pierces the anvil and it hangs up instead of getting dropped in the cup.

Only time I've ever seen that happen is with milcrimp or brass that had gotten wet and stored without thoroughly drying. Lotta outdoor range pickups get this way if they happen to get rained on.

It is a PITA, but ya only (usually) deal with it once

We see this most often in 40 cal, and most often in Speer brass/CCI primers. The spent primer gets caught on the end of the decapping pin, and gets pulled back up into the case. Tapering the end of the pin does help.Suggest using 220 grit sandpaper.

The only time I have this problem is with nickel plated speer 9MM cases. Doesn't matter what I do to the tip of the decapping pin, they still get stuck. I solved it by culling all the nickel plated Speer 9mm cases.

When I get a seperate shellplate set up for 200 gr LSWC's on my 550 I was planning on using a Lee sizer/decapper and then the rest would be Dillon dies. Is my logic sound? I was wanting seperate toolheads for 230 FMJ's and 200 gr LSWC's.

Separate shellplate? Whuffo? The other sounds fine. Lee sizer/decapper, Dillon the rest of the way - why not? :)

Nevermind shellplate...I meant toolhead....forgive me I been partaking. Celebrating my first night off and all.

Got it - Good idea with the separate toolhead if you've got all the dies.

G'day.
I use the Dillon New Dynamic die set for 357 Sig with the spring loaded de-cap pin. Zero primer pull back as the spring loaded de-cap actually shoots the primer off the pin.

I alsoo use this die for de-capping 9mm cases with crimped primers. same result. zero primer pull back.

Hooroo.

I don't know about the decapping pins on Dillon dies, but the pins on RCBS dies must have a Rockwell hardness (C) of about 90. I'm guessing they quench them and ship 'em.

I decided to file one once, and I think I could file it for a week and just wear down my file.

I don't remember where I read it at, but it said that the Dillon decap/sizer dies don't size all the way down because of the radius. The other Dillon dies (bullet seat/crimp) appeal to me because I figger they'd be easier to clean when using LSWC's which I expect more gunk buildup. Just figured it would be more convenient to have a seperate toolhead set up for 230gr FMJ's and 200gr LSWC's.

G'day All.
The New Dillon carbide sizer/de-cap for the 357Sig sizes fine. I can run 40S&W glock guppy brass into it and have 357Sig(40/9) brass come out with no remains of the bulge and they chamber fine in the G35/357Sig.

Hooroo.

I have occasional trouble loading .45 ACP with primers reinserting. Interestingly enough it only happens with once fired MagTech brass. There is something about the MagTech primers that my Dillon decapping pin like to hold on to.

Howdy All,

1. I experienced this same phenomena, a call to our favorite tech support, a little grinding to flatten the pin on two sides. Wa Laa! -- Solved that one.

How did you grind it? I ran an RCBS decapping pin across a mill bastard file and it just seemed to wear down the file. That pin is HARD!

Howdy SK,

1. Not exactly sure what tool I may have used, maybe my diamond grit knife stone.
