View Full Version : Who makes the best AR15 receivers?
So I'm going to try & buy a couple before the ban comes. Just need to know which brand / type / whatever is the best quality. I'm willing to pay but I'm not willing to go broke 'cause I got other stuff to buy too.

To be honest if many of the main brands are made in the same plant.
Having said that I am very impressed with Mega and Dual star.

Other than a Freakshow marked one I really like Mega lowers. I understand that only a few companies do the forgings but final machine work means as much as the forging it came from, and I like Mega's machining.

They're all about the same, except for Colt. Anvil Arms (http://www.anvilarms.com) is a decent price and they'll do custom engraving if you want to get yo bling on.

Dude, I don't think you gonna beat a lower from Freak for the price. The DoubleStar lower I have for my 9mm build looks pretty good to me. I'm getting another one from him.

Out of all the lowers I've seen, Anvil Arms has the best finish. They are on sale right now for $100+$9 shipping. Plus, as said above, they will do custom laser engraving.

I agree, Anvil Arms receivers have a great finish. Have never taken advantage of the laser engraving, maybe if I do an SBR at some point.

I love my DPMS. Dude, if you wanna come with me, next friday I'm going to Continental to buy another lower. You can at least take a look at them.

Oh, and one little issue. Remember, in MD, you can only buy 1 regulated weapon per month, unless you have a collector's license.

Does state law prohibit FTF transactions?

You have to take them to an MD State Police barracks, where you fill out the same paperwork you would at a gunshop, pay them the 10 dollar fee, and they then hold it for 7 days.....if you wanna do it all legal like.

Right now, I wish that something considered cash and carry (rifles/shotguns) didn't require and FFL. I've been eyeballin the Tikkas on Freak's site, and well, I just don't wanna pay transfer fees. My preferred shop, I'm not sure what they charge. I do know of one that charges 25 bucks.

Find one for sale FTF, I was just remarking the other day, I don't have a single paperworked handgun, the way it should be.
Rob, maybe you & I a go to Continental & throw down for lowers together. Continental is over priced but I'd end up paying the same if I ordered from Freak & payed transfer fees. Sux.

Same. I paid.....125 with the MDSP fee for my last one. The big problem is, anywhere in the part of the state is over priced. The eastern shore, much better.

Hey Freak, can you get a hold of Taurus .454's?
I'd drive to the eastern shore to make the purchase if the cost of gas didn't negate the benefit.
Freak, I tell you what, I think I'm going to buy from you on this one. I'd rather support good people around here then continental. I'll make some calls & see who's got the most reasonable transfer fees in the area. It will be either this month or next depending on what's happening with the G20 I'm waiting on from GLOCK. 1/mo sux.

Crap, the place in Whitemarsh says 25.00 for MDShooters members. What is that place called.....Gun Connection.
Oh, and same here Freak. Jason, let me know when you're gonna order, and we can save us and Freak the shipping.
TT, we can do the order as soon as you'd like- especially if you know of a good place to have the transfer done. I'll just tell the other place to hold on to my G20 till next month. They should be fine with that since I already paid.

I'm gonna call over to Christian Soldier. I hear he's a good guy, just weird hours. I'll see if he can do better than 25 bucks as a transfer.

Taurus 454 Casull is the bomb, right behind my 500. Love it. be careful, it could possibly blow your face clean off.
ON another note, I would order from Freakshow, seems to have the best prices around

Rumor has it that people who don't want the Feds to know about all of their guns do it this way. If someone wants to buy a new gun, and they know someone else that wants to buy a new gun, they just buy each other's and swap out. This is all pure speculation as I personally know no one that would do that.

Wouldn't that be useless though because the quanity of guns in your home would still be the same, just different types.

If they are already in your house counting guns, then buying them at a gun show isn't going to help either. This is just so they don't now WHAT guns you have.
