Just checking? I want to buy a few or five receivers this summer to keep me busy on my off times.
i sure don't know much but as far as a 1911 or 2011 goes i'd look at the STIs. then again i've lusted after a STI for a year or better and am going to order a pair next week.

If youre thinking single stack Caspian has a good reputation but they are still a "cast" frame. Les Baer sells "forged" frames and slides.
Some prefer forged but a great gun can be made from either

+1 on the Caspians.
Good price for what ya get.
Machine work is excellent, pins holes actually where they supposed ta be too.
A few other niceties included, all da burrs been buffed off, trigger channel nice an smooth, you can get one already cut for whatever grip safety profile ya need etc..

I like Caspian my self.
I've got a .45 built on a Caspian frame slide and currently working on a 38S on a Caspian frame and slide.

Need a used Wilson Combat 38 Super stainless barrel with ramp ?
5", use bushing for their .581" barrel. Got couple thousnd rounds through it, nice clean rifling. $50
I prefer forged units like Les Baer or RRA. I presently am content with my three Springers, however they don't sell individual receivers, I don't think.

Nope....but thanks, I'm fitting a ramped Kart.
My Springer runs fine as well and I haven't seen a Springer reciever alone for building either.

My experence has been with the Essex and Springfield reciever's both work fine but I prefer the Springfield. Other than Colt's and a horrific Vega that's it for me in 1911 frames.

sorry for the delay -very busy-...
Looks like I need a little of everything!
I've played with a few production frames like the Springfield, and S&W and are dang good quality - nice and thick front straps to checker on... However there a bit lose, and I HATE swagging rails. I might try my shop press next time for grins. Anything is better than hammering the **** out them!
Like I said above, I'll probably try one of each, and yea I always wanted to build a 2011... Somewhere in the mix, I'm doing a long-slide 10mm! I have a couple of Dan Wesson's in 10mm and its a match made in heaven - 10mm+1911 - pleasssse.
Thanks everybody for the great input...
