Jake, my 8 year old grandson, took his first deer this afternoon. Hunting with his dad, dropped a doe at 88 yards with his spanking new Rossi single-shot .243. Called me up on the cell talking so fast I could barely understand him...

A moment forever frozen in time.
This kid will be aight throughout his entire life. Reality realized at a young age will keep him on the straight and narrow.
Nice.

They've got a bunch on the cell phones but I don't know if they have any other pix. Little scamp (and I do mean little - 55 Lbs. soaking wet & no way can he hold the rifle without support) looked bloody all over best I could tell. First words..."I GOT him". Actually, a "her" but it don't think it mattered to him. For me, I'm relieved...my greatest fear was him wounding one and losing it and that can carry a long-term impact.

Awesome for your grandson. May he never forget the first one, and may he always get a similar feeling for the rest of them. I have dropped my fair share of deer through my lifetime, and I still get an adrenaline rush. I have promised to quit hunting when I quit getting the feeling.

Cell phone pix (finally)...best I could do. Note that a small doe dwarfs the hunter...

That came first, his specialty is running all my range pickups through the U-Dies and case-gauging the results.
