Bogey,
So how does it work? Man on man? Against the clock? Eliminations?

In a nutshell, we set up six of the stages used in Steel Challenge. I believe there are 8 total. (one of which has been tossed from the CoF)
We run six stages, 5 strings per stage.
You stand in a start box, hands at surrender.
At the buzzer, get busy. Shoot various plates, then a "stop" plate.
Worst string is tossed on each stage.
You fight the clock.
Man with best time at EOD is declared the Big Cheese.
There are penalties for messin' up, but won't explain that. The link is to the official rule book. CoF are listed the last few pages. (Flying M has been tossed and a couple others added)

First time I showed up for this (Steel Challenge is new for our range as of January) I just stood there looking at the stages asking myself "what's the point?"
It's a very humbling sport. :sosp: Transitions are absolutely key, and with the exception of "The Roundabout" there is no shooting order. It gets interesting figuring out the best way to shoot.

I was Match Director for our local club's Steel Challenge matches for the last few years (just handed that duty off to a buddy).
It's a great game. I am always amazed that it's so hard to figure out the best way to stand there and shoot 5 targets on a stage.
For those that haven't shot it...
The steel is traditionally set not to fall when hit. It is just mounted a bit loose so that it rings when hit (and bleeds off energy from the bullet).
There is no real power factor (center-fire is 38/9mm or bigger).
There are only 5 targets MAX, so it wheel gun friendly.
Little to no movement...easy on the knees. (no, those pants don't make you look fat)
We also run .22 rimfire. And, recently we have been trying a bit of pistol caliber carbine.
It's a great place to start out...and yet remains super challenging at Grand Master level too.
It's a fairly easy type of match to setup and run, too. (way easier than running USPSA or IDPA)
Here are a few videos of my shooting buddy: http://andersonshooting.com/videos.htm
The first few are Steel Challenge.
That is Grand Master Steve Anderson shooting his open gun. You don't have to have a fancy gun though. Stock guns are welcome. (I use a Glock and a plastic holster)

It is fun. And, you aren't as wore out at the end of the day.
It's an easy match to put on. And, now that USPSA has bought it...it will probably become more popular.

No sub forum need it for it. Since USPSA purchased the rights to it I think it fits well in this forum.
I'll be shooting the 1st Annual Washington State Steel Challenge match on May 17th. Will be my first steel challenge and am really looking forward to it, should be a lot of fun.
