Reloading is like printing your own dam money.
Bought 223 bullets for $7.00/100
Bought primers for $2.00/100
Cases (assume 10 reloads) $.60/100
Powder $8.00/100
So looks like it cost me about $20.00/100. I just made 500 rounds. So that cost me about $100.00.
The ammo man is selling 223 for 425.00/1000.
If I make several thousand more I could retire.

.223 ammo is high, but that is why I reload.

You guys with rat problems could save a lot of money by shooting them with a .22LR instead of a .223.

Seems like just yesterday when I was getting those excellent IMI 55gr. fmjbts from Widener's for $37 per 1000, shipped! Also picked up 32# of AA2200 for around $45 per 8# jug, shipped. Thankfully, I still have a thousand of those cheap bullets and plenty of AA2200 left for .223 reloading. :)

could save even more money by using a bb gun..............
I used to be a deadly little shot with a bb gun, my favorite thing was to hit bumblebees in midair. They would just kinda go POOF when hit, Or play sniper out in the back pasture, if I could see a bug it was dead.

If it is good enough for the troops I am OK with it. I am sure they all thank you for your comforting thoughts on the inadequacy of the rounds they are using to defend their lives though...
That isn't really directed at you...just the general populace that want to belittle the round...it really can't help morale when everyone is telling you you have one of the ****tiest rounds around.

I didn't see any posts in this thread that belittled the .223. What am I missing?

I know my lil' stash seems awfully small compared to many of you, but it's mine and it's paid for. I really regret not scarfing up some SA and Guat battle packs five years ago when they were dirt cheap. My wife and I were living on the edge while she was earning her BS and Masters Degrees, and we simply didn't have the cash then for something so frivolous. Now that we can better afford them, alas they are long gone.
Still, I "saved" a ton of money as I slowly acquired several thousand XM-193 and Q3131 and AE-223 at under $4 a box a few years ago.
And I bought a couple thousand M193 bullets from Wideners when they were $60/1000. I must have over 2K sized and primed cases waiting to be loaded, sorted by headstamp.
I feel like I've saved hunnerds and hunnerds of dollars if I had to buy on todays market. Might even have saved over a grand. Sure am glad I did it when we could barely afford it. It would be even harder today than back then!

I wish I could remember the cost of my 223 components... I purchased enough for around 4,000 reloads a while back... I think it only ended up being around $220 or so for everything shipped... not too shabby... and I still have enough for around 3500 (I don't shoot the AR much...)

Sorry, just talking about all the mouse caliber comments...probably just insomnia induced crankiness...carry on.
