Man that's a cool gun. I'm surprised he sat it down on the wet looking ground. Nice quality wood on that setup too!

Next time he needs a cigar for the picture.

Well, that explains a few things. Can you still get parts for those?

Nice typewriter. What vintage? We have a 28 Navy overstamp that all the Special Warfare people like to shoot when at the range. It is the most popular FA item in our inventory, and more than a few would have preferred one in Iraq.:sifone:

I should let Blueline tell the whole story, he tells it better than I do. That is a '28AC, the US is ground off the receiver with the C overstamp. A former TN Highway Patrol gun he got through a friend.

Blueline and I have talked about what the ideal long arm would be back in WWII. As much fun as the Thompson is, it's freakin' heavy. For a weight vs. punch factor, I would have wanted an M2 Carbine.

I agree. I have a semi auto Thompson on hand for a transfer and the gun is unbelievably heavy. Completely ruled out converting a Thompson to full auto. I'll definitely pass it up for a M2 conversion (on a commercial one of course).

That's a purty gun. I fired one before. Real soft and smooth (cuz it's so heavy). After a couple of warm up mags I could keep 'em all on a silhouette at 25 yards.

The old thompson pictured above was produced by Auto Ordnance in 1942 for the war, and eventually made its way to the Tennessee Highway Patrol. It was a U.S. 1928A1 but was restamped to a 1928AC with the U.S. ground off. Allegedly this was done to the thompsons that got pulled for law enforcement in the states during the war effort.

When the THP tired of this one decades ago it went to a dealer in Nashville who sold it to a brain damaged man in Tennessee who lived on the Kentucky border. Before his crazy wife drove him to kill himself he sold the gun to his best friend. This man was pursued by the FBI until 1963 because they thought he was responsible for an anti segregation school bombing in 1959. They never charged him, and, according to the old man, the bomb was set off at night on the weekend so no children would be hurt. He "didn't do it but segregation still ain't no good." He sold it to a dealer in Knoxville who sold it to a friend of mine several years ago. Then I bought it.

And my wife is correct. I need to shed a few pounds again.

Thanks for the kind words, H&A. Pleasure meeting you too, hopefully the next time we'll have more than a 30 minute window.

Nice Tommy gun, have shot one like it and loved it, nothing at all like shooting an H&K as it is so smooth and easy. Heavy? Yep but it was intended to be heavy to dampen recoil. Now as for all of this M2 talk...wasn't all that cool of a gun and most folk's were better served by an M1 rifle. Still and all the M2 looks cool when being fired.
Blueline..will try and get in touch with you soon, how's your dad doing?
MMP99...good to have talked with you the other night....take care of your dad...

Hey Dan I didnt notice the G17 but I was not sizing you up or anything(probably would not have seen it even if I was looking, you know my glasses and all) I too ALWAYS carry I had my g36  you got to around here (if you noticed some of da locals dat were milling around there that day)

I never cared a lot for the M-2, tho I've fired a bunch of rounds through a few. Even with the GI brake they still climb a lot. Ammo is hard to get, and it is almost as heavy as a TSMG, but the German MP-44 is a sweet shooter.
For urban work an M-3 is a nice choice, lighter than a Thompson, a bit slower cyclic rate.

Ah, Mogo, I got plenty of 30 Carbine components on hand.

Truth be told, of all the WWII subguns, I'd probably take a MP40. A bit faster than the Grease gun and VERY easy to control.

IF only that were true. but Im afraid that it is a far off dream. I would be happy with a semi auto one. had a chance years ago to get one for 800.00 but passed. what was I thinking. anyways............. there are several neat guns out there that I would like. but maybe one day. I wold love to shoot a full auto one just once though. My wife wouldnt let me wear the same jeans for 20 years. plus they dont last long in my kinda business
