View Full Version : How Bad Have You Got It?

Most of us have heard that commercial for NASCAR where people are seen doing odd/extreme things etc and at the end the commercial say's "How Bad Have You Got It"?

Well, when it comes to handloading, I have it beyond bad. it's become a disease.

Woke up early today so I decided to load up a box of 223. Things kinda got out of hand just a little :animlol:. As I was finishing up I noticed a couple cases seemed a bit dull compared to the others, so I grabbed my T-Shirt rag (which happened to have some Flitz polish residue still on it) and wiped off the 2 finished rounds. Needless to say they shined up much brighter than the ones that had just came out of the tumbler that had polish added.

This is where I guess the CRB in me took over. Grabbed the bottle of Flitz and proceeded to do the remaining 48.

Here is a pic of 2 cases. The ones on the left just came from the tumbler & the 1 on the right is what they look like now once hand polished. :yikes:

and

http://i223.photobucket.com/albums/dd258/CobraGT87/Reloading/SuperShine223-1.jpg

The rest of the cases now. (this pic REALLY shows how much diff the shine is)

http://i223.photobucket.com/albums/dd258/CobraGT87/Reloading/SuperPolished223.jpg

and

Heres what the T-Shirt looked like afterwards. (on both sides too)

http://i223.photobucket.com/albums/dd258/CobraGT87/Reloading/DirtyT-Shirt-223.jpg

This hobby is so addicting, I think I need help :yesnod:. I hope I didn't lose my CRB status. Whats the cure? :biggrinjester: or is there one? They look so nice I doubt I'll ever shoot em. -). I even used a clean T-shirt to put them in the red plastic box so no finger prints are on em.. (Dad Gummit thats bad)

OH, in case you're wondering. The rounds are loaded with:
24.0grns of AA2460,
M855-AP 62grn FMJBT,
Wolf SRM primers,
2.250 OAL

Peace Out " Merry Christmas GP'rs"
Scott

If you wipe just one down you are scrood.

30 minutes later you have a tarnished shirt and some shiny ammo and are online shopping for the new clear AR mags so you can see your work.

So how many did you order?

I am hurting today... one day = 1,800 bullets on a LCT. all hand primed. think I may go out there and load another 700/ 9MM. ................... hmm

Yes, you got it bad. Scott, get a hold of yourself, man. Put the t-shirts rags down, step back from the edge of the abyss and repeat out loud "I'm making ammo, not museum pieces. I'm making ammo, not museum pieces." until you truly believe it. Then boldly open up the red box, dump the *ammo* out and put them back in by hand. And no picking them up gently by the rims. I want to see at least three fingers on each one! Yes, get fingerprints on them. Its ok. You've made pretty ammo, but it is ammo. You're going to shoot them. They will get dirty again. You'll load them again and you'll shoot them again. Its ok, since that is the circle of life for brass. It is what they were meant to do. Not shooting them breaks that circle of life and you don't want to mess with that, do you?

(But, in all seriousness, those are truly some incredibly shiny rounds. Congrats!)

Thats too funny. it's exactly what I would do.. so many times I've had problems getting to sleep and go out to the man cave to load, trim, tumble or something to tire me and end up being out there for 5 or more hrs.. just last night I awoke at 3am, went to the cave, did some loads & triming & polishing, the next thing I look up and it's 8am LOL.

been that way now for 2 yrs. no wonder I have such a nice ammo reserve :patriot:

BTW, here's the icing on the cake. decided to vaccum seal them and put away in our space capsule ROFL. then when reloading is a thing of the past and everyone is shooting moon beams, lasers, depleated uranium etc, someone will find these and they will know there once was a hobby called "handloading" I'm sick..

You vacuum packed them as well? Ok, you're beyond my ability to help. I think you need a three week stay at the BigSlick Reloading and Shooting Reorientation Program. It is an expensive program, though, as I think it costs something like 500 pounds of smelted WWs paid in advance.

I guess I got it purty bad too.

My whole family is pissed at me, this year we required everyone to write a list so there was no unwanted/junk gifts.

They all keep comin to me sayin "What the hell's a spare 4 hole turret?", "where do I get something called Varget?", "I don't know what 200gr LSWC means!".

I tole 'em to get that crap right though, or they gettin a little stockin stuffer of WTF powder and spent primers.

BGGB is OCD in his reloading. He should just get a 1050, and be less OCD.

Since our friend Craig said it was beyond his ability to help, Uncle Albert will step up to the plate.....

GlockG20, send ME that purty ammo.
I will empty it in a most gentle fashion, by running it thru the new Ruger 77VT in .223.
I promise I won't ding the cases in my AR.
I can then ship the empty brass BACK to you, & we can continue the proscess untill you get over your urges to mirror polish the brass.
Showing my true generosity, I'll even replace the primers used !

Luckly for me, reloading and chronic insomnia (had it since puberty) go hand in hand.If I ain't alseep in my 30 min. window, I go and reload for a couple of hours (or play guitar if'n it ain't too cold) then I'm usually ready for my regular 4-5 hours of sleep.
I got a lube shrit I wear too! When I'm lubin' up some cast loads I use this shirt to get wax off undesirable areas. Gets too dirty? Wear it backward or inside out. Wash it separately of course.

sheesh, I wonder if we are distant cousins er somtin. I too have chronic insomnia. (had it since my slug fest with Meningitis). If I aint asleep in 45min, I don't sleep (too much back pain to relax)..then it's out to the cave for some exercise :yesnod:

Yeah I learned years ago to listen to mu' bod' when in bed. If I be floppin' around like fish outta' water it's just better for me to get up and do something. I don't play the guitar, but do dabble with the electric keyboard. if I so much as even thought of turning that thing on at 2am, my wife would cut my **** off :yikes:.

most days, it's sleep 2hrs (when I sleep), up 6hrs, sleep 30 min, up 6 hrs and so on. it's he** on the bod, but nothin I can do. so I make me a mug of my home made espresso and off I go. the wife does love the ammo supply and teases me that should anything happen to me, she'll be set in ammo for eon's. she said (just be sure theres plenty of AR15 ammo :animlol:) and there is, trust me.:30:

Been like that since college. wait a minute, back then it was about 4 hrs a WEEK !
Yeah, going out to the shed does wonders, when I can't sleep, about 500 rds. of 9mm on the Lee 1000 gets me tired enough to crash a bit.
Keeps up the supply of production ammo too. Seems the less I sleep, the better I shoot. More ammo for practice I guess.
