Physicians:
The number of physicians in the U.S. is 700,000. Accidental deaths caused by Physicians per year are 120,000. Therefore the number of accidental deaths per physician is 0.171. (Statistics courtesy of U.S. Dept of Health Human Services).
Guns:
The number of gun owners in the U.S. is 80,000,000. (Yes, that's 80 million.) The number of accidental gun deaths per year, all age groups, is 1,500. Therefore the number of accidental deaths per gun owner is .000188. (Statistics courtesy of FBI.)
So, statistically, doctors are approximately 9,000 times more dangerous than gun owners. Remember, 'Guns don't kill people, doctors do.'
FACT:
Not everyone has a gun, but almost everyone has at least one doctor.
Please alert your friends to this alarming threat. We must ban doctors before this gets completely out of hand!!!!! Out of concern for the public at large, I withheld the statistics on Lawyers for fear the shock would cause people to panic and seek medical attention!

I will let the obvious fallacy in this argument go because I agree with your conclusion.

Steve, isn't your wife a doc? :)

1st let me say that the post was placed in jest and second, my wife isn't a Doctor. In fact she 'retired' September 1980 at the ripe age of 29 when we moved out of Kali to Colorado.
BTW, I'm back in Kali (Lake Tahoe) this week for a short visit with my wife. We're staying with her mom and step-father.
but but but, guns are dangerous... only the police should have them... then there wouldn't be 1500 deaths by gun owners....
That would be the response I would get from folks around me here. Logic and reason doesn't work.

So, Steve, you're saying that you've never e-mailed me that either you or your wife is a pediatrician?:wink5: (Maybe I got that part mixed up.)

I kind of got the impression that he was saying she wasn't a doctor ANYMORE.

So we need doctor control, not gun control. I wonder how many gun realted deaths intentional or accidental there are. Thats what the gun ban nuts are going to bring up.
gun ban nut.:bigun2:

Since she "retired" @ 29, I think it's safe to say that she was never a doctor. :) Every doctor I know (my best friend's a doc) doesn't stop being a doctor when they retire. I'm reasonably sure that Steve also told me once that he was a doctor, too. :)

Let's not confuse these nice folks who don't know you well with your dry humor.
For the record: neither my wife or I have ever been, ever claimed, or ever wanted to be a medical doctor. I had at one time considered going back to college and completing a PhD (doctorate) in Contract Law when I retired for something to do but have found that I'm just too busy.

Looks like I'm going to have to fire up my retired computer, and I hope I still have all those old e-mails saved! :)
