How do you clean up your Garand (and other guns) after shooting corrosive ammo ?

I use hot soapy water, but this comes up again from time to time so I thought I would put up a post to see if there is a better way.

The soap won't hurt anything, and may even remove a little carbon, but HOT water is all you need (followed by a regular cleaning.
The "spray it with Windex" methiod kinda works, but only because the windes is 98% water 1.5% soap (not a lot of amonia).

The corossive bit is a residual salt from the priming compound (potassium cloride?) and as salt desolves best in water, it is the easiest/cheapest thing to use.
Cold water is better than nothing, but it is harder to dry the barrel afterwards (hot water will flash evaparate off the hot steel).

What Tailgunner said.

The chrome-lined bores in many Soviet-Bloc service rifles and handguns were a real-world accomodation to the corrosively-primed ammunition they fired through their weapons. That doesn't mean to NOT clean your AK properly after running corrosive ammo in it--it means you get a little leeway on bore life. Think of it in the same context as the safety on a deer rifle--a good stop-gap measure, but no replacement for basic safe gun handling.

Slick, use the stuff the Germans used for two world wars and thousands of blackpowder shooters use today. Best all 'round stuff there is: Ballistol.
