Ironically tonight,
Wifey Asked to see what I was Loading up while I was In "The Cave".
I Grabbed a round of what I was Loading.

125gr Hornady XTP
21.5gr of H110
WSPM Primer
Winchester Case 5 times Fired (Loaded round would be 6th)
1545fps Avg w/ 4" in MY Ruger GP100

She handed it back to me and told me to not be handing her "Dirty Ammo".
I told her that my Media isnt small enough to get under the Ledge by the Rim. She said then "What about this?" (Pointing near the Web)
I looked closer and Sure enough....A Crack.

I Put Sharpie in the Crack to Aid in Pics.

Yes,I Usually inspects the cases when they come out the Cylinder/after Tumbling/During Priming/ and After the Bullet was seated. BUT I guess I missed this one.
I promptly Pulled out ALL my 125gr Magnum Loads out and gave them Another Look.
My 125gr .357 Loads are the ONLY ones I run at Full Power.
I found one other case that is suspect so Down it comes. I can deal with Splits at the Neck..But the Web...NOPE. I dont wanna send the Gun BACK to Ruger again.

I Guess 4 Eyes ARE Better then 2.

Good Find Wifey!:punk:

Thanks for sharing that, Nitro. I would not expect to find a crack way down there, either. I will also try to be better about inspecting my cases after seeing this.

Nice catch there. It sure is in an odd place, now, isn't it?

Love those XTPs. Some of the most accurate bullets I've ever shot.

Oh, and notwithstanding that crack, you sure do make some good looking ammunition!

Dat's not a crack, that's a burn thru. Big difference between cause of the 2 (even though both are reasons to trash the case)

Now that you mention it, TG, it certainly is.

Hmmm....I must say that a "Burn through" is a new one to me....TG,can you explain the difference?
I'm Guessing that it's a Trait of using Large doses of Slow powder.

Nothing to do with the powder speed or the "power factor", but a lot to do with inclusions and flaws in the brass itself (manfacturing defect in the raw material). The classic shape/direction is a "dog bone" (crack running between two holes) running lengthwise on the case. I've seen it in once fired and many times fired cases, and at the base, the shoulder and on the neck.

nitesite

The way cases are drawn and stretched when they are formed, it's surprising that the flaws and thin spots which lead to this condition don't occur much more frequently.

When I Lived in Detroit there was this Joint called " 'Jus Bad Food "

Owned by Two Brothers from Down South and was the Coolest ever.
Once I walked in and forgot my Wallet so I had to back out. They Said "Hell Nah,Get on ovah heah. We never send one out Hungry"
They Comped my meal. It took like a Month till I was able to get back that way to pay them back. When I got there I Tossed them a $20,he Put it under the Cash register and said that the Money will be there for the next poor Sap who "Needed Frontin' on his Grub" as he Smirked at me.
Cool Buncha Dudes.
Great Cajun Food.

Chains can have some good stuff.

I used to like the lamb at Outback. When they took it off the menu I stopped going. Okoboji Bar and Grill used to get chicken livers right too. I stopped going there when they stopped serving the chicken livers.

BigSlick and Dan...you guys like the mom and pop shops when you travel? Not me. I have this weird philosophy on that. It goes like this: No good can come from trying restaurants like that. If I really like the food, then I won't be able to get it again. If I don't really like the food, its a waste of money. The best I can hope for is a decent meal that I won't crave in the future.

So what's the point of trying it?

You can find some fantastic food, learn a lil bit about some variations and maybe, if you're lucky, get a recipe or method of how it was prepared.

Add that to your own bag of tricks, so you can improve your cookin skills.

The biggest advantage of mom an pop or local places is, with the chains, 99% of the food is commisary, or partially prepped food. As in, it came in a box, as an inventory item, or canned, frozen etc.. Usually filled with all kinda crap additives or chemicals.

Lotta mom an pop places cook from scratch. Your steak didn't arrive in a bag with the marinade already added, it came in as a steak, just like you or I would buy from the grocer or meat man. Your vegetables didn't come in frozen, they arrived as fresh produce. No MSG, or other useless crap additive 'flavor enhancers' or tenderizers.

Just good old fashioned good cookin.

If you were ever lucky/unlucky enough to have ever been in a food plant in your life, you will appreciate this way more than you would ever imagine.

There is some scary stuff that goes in some prepackaged and prepped food, a lot of which doesn't even resemble food. Read an ingredient label sometimes, you'll see what I mean. Fresh steak, fresh vegetables or other food beats it hands down any way you cook it.

Chains use the commisary/prepped crap to cut costs and speed preparation time. Mom and pop places usually just have someone workin their arse off in the kitchen that has some genuine skill at cooking (on some level).

Take a look around most of the chain places, see Jorge in the kitchen slittin bags open an runnin da microwave ? I don't trust his judgement, cleanliness habits, cookin skills or ability to determine quality over following instructions based on a profit margin.

I've had some nasty food in chains, I've had some food in mom an pop places that wasn't made, or seasoned to my liking, but none where the food was outright nasty.

I can tell ya commisary food just by smellin it 99% of the time, no matter how it looks on the plate, and 100% of the time by taking one bite.

I wouldn't feed dat crap to a homeless democrat.

Cheese from a can, meat in a bag, rice or potatoes that were nuked, broiled or blanched then frozen with a lil additive thrown in to 'retain freshness' is crap. I prefer meat that come in the form of a cut, potatoes or other sides that had to be peeled and cooked from raw, and don't even get me started on chicken, fish or any kind of sauce added to a dish.

Been there up close an personal too many times where and when it was packaged to *ever* consider eating that crap, even if I was starvin my arse off.

I like burgers that start life as a chunk of ground meat, mex food that 5 minutes before ya eat it was seperate ingredients and Italian that has been slow cooked with someone with an attitude about how bad cookin out of a can really is.

Mom an pop places are usually the best bet for finding food that won't show up in a toxicology report, and taste a lot closer to home cooking.

Many times they are less expensive and almost every time you get a lot less apathy from the kitchen and staff, which, is important to me. It ain't any skin off Jorge's arse if the stuff he nukes on ya plate is bad, he was followin direction, not his problem or concern.

Mom an pop places worry about their reputation, or gettin sued as most of em don't have a team of corporate lawyers at the ready to deal with 'an incident'.

There's more, but that's good for a start.

I agree completely. I have had the displeasure of working in a food plant. When you see MSG roll in by the tank car full, you don't eat processed food. Kind of like being a surgeon and not eating meat.

When I'm home, I cook 100% from scratch. No boxed garbage here. Steak, meat, seafood, potatos, homemade pasta, fresh vegtables from local places, not Wal-mart. It's the only way to eat.

I flat out don't eat at Applebee's. If I'm stuck somewhere where there is only chains, I eat sandwiches in my hotel room. For real. Chains SUCK!

The flying J's I have been to have all got McD's in them. No buffet. There used to be a truck stop near my hometown in NE Ohio that had the best breakfast food in the world. All made from scratch. They closed about 6 or so years ago. Damn shame.

Nah...I'm just a bit weird on some things. Reading these posts about processed food is really opening my eyes!Try reading "Omnivore's Dilemma" and/or "In Defense of Food" both by Micheal Poulan. Both of these books will explain in full detail why the food we buy at the local grocery store is the way it is. You won't be able to put the book down once you start reading them.

Best truck stop food you a ever have in ya whole life is da Pig Out Palace outside a Henrietta, OK.

I hit it when I'm in Tulsa.

24hr buffet, all hot, all fresh, all home cook by some old womens what work there part time. They work in 4-5hr shifts, ever one of em got some kinda specialty.

I can tell ya, when ya on da road, a nice fresh sweet potato an some greeens an fatback sure feel like home. Real extra good fried chicken an roast beef from da oven too. Real mash potatoes an pintos. No canned crap.

You wanna lil slice a onion ta go wit ya beans, or some chow chow ta go with ya cabbage, all ya gotta do is ask ;) Need some softened up (real) butter or some alfalfa honey instead a clover honey for ya rolls ? Maybe some cobbler right outta dat oven, all ya gots ta do is let em know.

Always hot too - $12
