Now this is a damn shame! I can't say I've done this before, but I accidentally loaded 200rd of 10mm with large rifle primers.

Brass: Mixed
Bullet: Lead 180gr
Powder: Power Pistol 8.3grs
OAL: 1.255"
Primer: CCI 200 damn
---------------------------

Let the bets begin...

The test gun could be my S&W 1076, since I'm kind of dear to my DW pointman.

The primers themselves are flush if not slightly below. This would explain the work I had hand priming them. I thought is was my age, or just a batch of CCI that where slightly over size. Seen that before...

I'm thinking about pulling a few, and working a load up from 7.0grs till I see signs...

My Lee Manual shows 8.7 as Max load for PP with a 180 grain lead bullet. That is also with a pistol primer. If you do not want to pull them all, you would probably be safest doing a workup. Who knows, your pistols may not even be able to touch off rifle primers.

Maybe we need to get a hold of Clark for his official opinion.

I'd say work 'em up, or this would be a great time for a Ransom rest.

You're THE ERB...maybe just pull them, and then pop the primers, and start over???

Well I shot a; 6.7, 7.5, 8.0, and finally 8.3 in the 1076.
I then broke out the DW and caped off two 8.3's.
No problems to note other than a pretty small divot in the primers, but if memory serves I have wolff extra power FP springs in both...

BTW: I have a sand trap in my bullet room, so all I have to do is tell the old lady to plug her ears in the other room...
Guys that would have truly sucked if I had to pop bullets and primers from two hundred rounds...I'm one happy camper........

Ok, cool. Glad it worked out! Maybe a bit more attention when grabbing components might be a good idea too. Be safe. :)

Actually to be true to the ERB, I would of thrown them in a box and started a new batch. Was tempted, but I grew a pair :)

So you used the rifle primers and then worked up to the 8.3 grain loads then? If I understand you correctly, that was probably the smartest move.

Isn't that the truth! I'm going to reorganize my components a little better.
In this hobby/sport, complacency can kill!!!

Yes, I pulled the bullet and just down loaded the powder and worked up.

BTW: I think were caught in a post/reply wormhole?

He'd advise you to increase the load and use magnum rifle primers. Where is Clark these days?

I think some of the others ran him off. It sucks he has not been around, I enjoyed reading his posts.

Rifle primers are harder and slightly more difficult to set off. My minimal experiments indicate that rifle primed loads are not as accurate as pistol primed loads in service pistol calibers. Slow powder magnum revolver loads are similar in accuracy.

Nothin wrong with magnum primers...they work great in my 223 loads...

I also enjoyed his posts and learned a lot from him. Maybe we should start a petition to get him back to posting here.

Thats how half the Glock shooters at all the ranges I have ever been to shoot. Then again, they are probably the same ones that only bought Glocks cause they gangsta yo.
