Whats the purpose of a SWC-HP for a 45 acp?

SWCs cut clean holes in targets and the HP increases ballistic efficiency. That's about all I can think of.

To add to what Freak said, I would assume accuracy.
HP's (good ones anyway) are more accurate than non HP's more often than not.
Hornady's would be the exception in my experience, all of their bullets seem to be very accurate, as does the Sierra Tournament Master line. Noslers are incredibly accurate should you be lucky enough to find an offering in a weight you wanna work with

Yes, Hornady and Sierra do make some damn fine bullets. Hornady's are a bit cheaper. I'm in love with their XTPs and the .224 68gr BTHP-M.

Freak and BS: Have you loaded any of the .45 XTP's? If so, what load you like? I am waiting on my 1000 free to come in from Hornady HQ.
Thanks.

Lots of em, for years.
Depends upon what the load is for, but for a general all around load, I use 8.0gr AA#5 and WLP @ 1.250

My carry load is a 200gr XTP with 9.5gr HS6 CCI300 set to 1.225". This is the only jacketed load I shoot in my .45s. Everything else is the 230gr lead TC with 7gr HS6. I am a huge fan of HS6 in the 45 Auto.

Star (Star bullets Indiana) made some fantastic SWC HP 45 bullets. Incredible accuracy. A lot of speculation about balance, increased bearing surface or whatever but they were it. I think precision delta and Zero are making a swaged SWC HP now that was supposed to be a star copy but Ive heard nothing but mixed results about them.
When Star folded up several years ago I decided then to get back to casting, all my load work ups for accuracy were tossed out the window when they closed their doors.
Ill do my best to never be under the thumb of DaMan again
The Nosler 185 jhp also has a rep for being one of the more accurate bullets out there for 45acp

I have a Lyman Dev. mold for the 45 that throws a 200grHP. It's freaky accurate from several of my 45s. I can only think the bullets weight rest more to the rear & makes it abit more stable. BTW, the XTPs are some of the most accurate jacketed bullets going.
