Does anyone know the weight of a representative .270 and .308 jacket? I realize they vary by the length of the bullet, but rough numbers would be fine.

Let me give you the background on my question so that perhaps it will spur on some discussion. We know that .22LR cases can be used for .223 jackets and that .223 cases can be used for .375 H&H jackets. Are there any more magic combinations?

No, but what I've done is just look over wikipedia and compare the common handgun case sizes to the rifle bullet sizes. The one candidate I've found is that the .45 ACP case is only .005 inch smaller than the bullet diameter of the .444 Marlin. (Also .034 inch smaller than the bullet diameter for the .45-70 and only .026 smaller than the .450 Bushmaster.) However, I'm not planning on shooting the .444 Marlin so this doesn't help me much. My real goal was to find a secondary use for 9mm cases, but no good "bigger brother needs a jacket" calibers appeared in the list.

Might be able to make some .357 Mag jackets out of them. A guy on CB made some 25cal bullets from 22LR cases.
