View Full Version : Fubared a Dillon Primer Tube

So I bought a pack of primer tubes the last time I was in Mecca, and one of them had some roughness in it and the primers always had to be coaxed down it with the plastic alarm rod thingy.

So I recalled cleaning up some Vibra Prime tubes with a 22 bronze brush. So I grab the brush and start it into the tube, but damn is it tight. So tight it won't reverse direction. I get it up to the threaded base, and the base won't fit in the tube. F***! Can't pull it out, even with all my weight and a vice. Live & learn I guess.

Methinks the older ones were LARGE primer tubes.

Anyone want a lightly used tube with half a bronze brush stuck inside?

Maybe for the GP Festivus Exchange.

Better yet, it could be the GP Festivus Pole!

I want it.

I want it.

Pick me pick me. I will pay 1000 used primers.

I also have some crushed 223 cases.

DUH......

put a primer in the other end then hit it with a punch until you set it off.

Be sure to point it in a safe direction unless you want to be posting the same question about getting the brush out of your cat's arse

Cohutt - great minds think alike. The first thought that came to mind was some sort of "explosive removal method."

Then common sense got the better of me and the Festivus pole concept was born.

Gokyo - Some used primers would be a good trade. I'll consider it.

Ron,

If you're trying to say something, just come right out and say it, allright?

Steve,
I know it would be out of character, but feel free to call for a replacement pickup tube from us. Harder to get one for the vibra-prime.
Mullah, is that ham Keffa?

I'm scheduled for a Dillon Central stop in a few weeks, I may bring it in and trade someone at the counter for one. Hell, if I'm feeling rich like last time I might buy a four pack.

I can't imagine freight for one damned tube!

I can't imagine that you'd give up so easy. I think if you wedge the tube in a vise and put a pipe wrench on the brush something is going to turn. If it'll turn you can pull it out.

Steve I have had a Bronze Brush stuck in a revolver with the cylinder shut...it didnt want to come out.....I chucked the rod end up in my Dewalt really Tight then I pulled the trigger. Once the Brush Spun it Came out with ease.

Hopefully that will help your Pork Fingers as El_Ron called them.........................:frown2:

Crap. I already tore the base off of the brush. That's a good idea!

Well, in the spirit of ruining perfectly good primer tubes...I have 2 out of 4 that are pretty grumpy with WSRs. They go through the plastic just fine but then seem to not want to actually enter the tube part. All of them end up going in the primer pockets just fine so...could I take my chamfer tool and SLIGHTLY chamfer the top of the tube without mucking things up?

I Flitzed the insides of all my primer tubes. Made 'em very smooth.

Pork Fingers That's a disgusting thing to call the Hamhanded. Funny though, got a James Bond or Batman nemesis ring too it.

I did that as a precaution with success. Held the chamfer bit in my hand and lightly took the edge off. Seems much better. I have no problems with WSP's.

Nice job, only you would get a squib in a freaking primer feed tube.

Steve.

Ok I give you 1500 used primers but that is my highest offer. I also think I have some steel 45 acp cases.

Lets work this out. I know your just working it too see if I will give you more primers.

How do you Flitz the inside of the tubes?

Get a straight rod that'll fit. I guess you could use the follower rod but I straightened out a coat hanger (I had used the hook to retrieve my document case from the heater duct, but that's another story). Either use a .22 cleaning patch or improvise some little wad of cloth and soak it with Flitz or other metal polish, and just run the patch back & forth a few hundred times. Follow with a dry patch to clean.

A stainless brazing rod cut to length would probably work well.
My question is does it make enough difference to be worth the effort?

That's a good question. It took me a couple minutes per tube and I never have primers hang up, and they seem to go smoother through the tube. But maybe they would never have hung up anyway. It's hard to say. ;)

every tube I get some "stick" - just a quick tap and they come rolling out - I might try the coat hanger/flitz on one tube to see how she improves.

Get an RF100 primer filler and you won't have to Flitz or polish anymore primer tubes!

That's a hell of a deal, but can I cut the tube into smaller pieces for easier mailing?

That's a hell of a deal, but can I cut the tube into smaller pieces for easier mailing? If you bisect it longitudinally you a have twice as many primer tubes. It a work great as long as you keep the open side up.

I have one, but I didn't pay for it, so its worth every penny I paid for it! ;-)
Its a great machine, but I don't think I would buy one, I would stick with the Vibra Prime.

Thats the same reason I like my Super Swage and Dillon trimmer so much....
