Gwalch. started a thread on the S&W Model 10 and got several pix and posts on M-15s. I thought that I'd start a thread on M-15s.
Tell us about your favorite M-15 and favorite loads for it.
Here are a couple of photos of one I bought new in 1966. It's shown with a western-style holster rig - a Geo. Lawrence #36 - no longer made. I've fired way more than 10,000 rounds through it - mostly loads that are now considered by Alliant to be too hot - 158gr. SWC+5.0gr. Unique. In the 1980s, the hand and some other parts became worn enough for it to get sli. out-of-time, so I sent it back to the factory. While it was there, they did a reblue.

I've owned an early 70's model 15 as well as it's conterpart a model 67 and like an idiot let them go in trade. The coolest model that I didn't keep though was a model 18. The model 15 and 18 were how I learned to shoot wheel guns. I'm still looking for a replacement for the model 18 I let get away.

I have a line on a couple M-15's x 4", one of them might follow me home in early June. I have a superb M-686 x 4" that goes along on back-country excursions, but the idea of a half-pound-lighter revolver on my hip has a lot of appeal. EVERY Combat Masterpiece revolver I've fired has been a delight--fine trigger and superb accuracy.
Dare I dream it--a Model 18 to match it up with? Then critters are SCARCE.

Yep, I had a Model 18 that I sold a while back. Sometimes I really miss that one.

Did it come with the wide target trigger and hammer spur? I've seen a goodly number of M-14s outfitted that way, but never a M-15.

Ahh, I see the little firing-pin retainer at the back of the frame, now.
I'm still going to ask you the question about the target hammer and trigger. :) I've seen them on K-22 Masterpieces with the longer barrels, but never on a .22 Combat Masterpiece. Did S&W send it out like that? If so, that has got to be a very scarce variation. I particularly like the wide triggers on K-Frame revolvers.
My old M-18 is now gone, too. Why do we do things like that?

Dunno. I sold it when my wife was full-time into her Masters Degree program and we were living on just one income. I wanted something else so bad that I sold it for $450 and thought I did okay. But I do miss it. It had the most perfect timing and lockup on all six chambers of any S&W revolver I've ever owned in over 30 years of owning Smiths.
Oddly enough, when I put it on the S&W Forum Classifieds I got a buyer in just a few hours, and he wound up living in the neighboring county from me! So we just did a FTF sale. Convenient? Sure was. But what are the odds?
As to your question about the TT/TH, here's what the SCSW 2nd Edition says about the Model 18 on p. 136:
"... Usually found with a flat-faced wide target hammer and a wide target trigger or .265" serrated trigger and narrow checked hammer, also found with optional adjustable trigger stop."
The Product Code for a 4" B SB TT TH was 100603

P.S. ~ I once had several months to decide on a 2" Model 15 that had a beautiful blue job but it wasn't pinned. The rifling was so sharp and had such high relief it would just amaze you. Man, I sure wish I hadn't let that one slip away. I had every opportunity to buy it but as we said about "WHY do we do that?" one day it was gone. :cryin:

I have a couple of M-15s that I picked up a bit ago. One's a shooter and the other's a looker. They're great guns.

You mentioned the Model 14. Here's one I bought LNIB in 2004. Another bad photo when I wasn't doing so well at digital photography.

Dave--
NICE late-series Model 14, sir! I have a stainless late-series K-22 (Model 617/6-shot) that is a very fine varmint gitter and can roller--when it can be pried away from wife and daughters on shooting trips.
