So loading .22 LR is out of the question for me....

I don't like spending the extra $$ on the good stuff (CCI), but what choice is there? CCI ammo @ Pistol League has been so good, as has Federal, that was 40 gr., non bulk.

I've got quite the little pile of misfires from Bulk Packs of Win. Fed. and Rem. all from Wally's.

Win. Xpert has been the worst offender as of late.

Do these manufacturers just like pissing' us cheap...I mean frugal, shoppers off? :prrr:

I have had great luck with the Federal bulk pack at Wal Mart. The Winchester will not feed through my Ruger 22/45 at all, and the Remmington seem very dirty, so I stick to the Feredal. I can't remember the last FTF I had with them, and my daughter shoots several hundred each time we go to the range.

I've tried the 550rd bulk pack of Remington, and i couldn't WAIT for it to be used up... lots of fail-to-fires, screwed up feeding, stovepipes, etc etc.

I use CCI minimags whenever i can. It's pricier but it is much more reliable for my Mk II. My experience with cheaper bulk ammo has been a complete PITA and makes shooting a chore instead of enjoyable... that is no bargain to me.

I had 5-6 FTF (feed) in my first mag. the other day. :frown2:

Man, don't say that, we just finished shooting through our last 1000 CCIs and the only thing I could get was a 525rd box of Remingtons. I have never had a problem with bulk pack..except that UMC 45 crap I bought. I hope these aren't going to be junk. I think I started skimping on the 22lr when I got the 17HMR.

It could have been either a bad mfg lot, or it could just honestly be that my Ruger is more prone to jamming with them... but that bulk stuff was just horrible for me. I doubt I'll ever buy any again; i just buy some CCI every time I'm at the store, whether i need it or not.

What made it even worse was that it was about all I had when teaching a couple of people to shoot. Nothing worse than having to clear a student's jam every 5-10rds... when someone is just getting comfy with guns, the last thing i wanted them to worry about was dud rounds and stovepipes.

I've enjoyed great success with both Federal and Remington 550-paks from Wal-Mart. I shoot both, with equal reliability, through my 10-22 and Colt Woodsman.

Like Walter, they have worked pretty well for me in my Ruger 10-22s, Marlin Mod 60, Buckmark, and S&W 22A. Heck, they even work well in an old Hi Standard pump rifle I have.

Let me clarify just a bit.

In my Win. Mod 61 (rifle), most work.

In my S/W 22A (pistol), I have the most problems.

When I have a mis fire, I save the rounds and try them in my 22 rifle. Most won't fire.

I have not had too many problems with the 550 Federal BPs here. Occasionally I get a few duds, but for the most part... no problems. It works great in my Walther P22, so I stocked up a few K. I also buy a couple boxes of CCI Stingers and Green Tag when available. Green Tags have been by far the most reliable.

Has anyone contacted the mfgs with lot numbers and failure specifics? They've always been very receptive, helpful and provided satisfaction to me in the past. Don't be shy.

So far everyone has been very good about taking care of me (esp. Federal). Winchester is moving at the speed of molasses, but we'll see.

So loading .22 LR is out of the question for me...So I gotta ask...out of the question for you? Do you have many friends that load 22lr? Sorry, just had to be a smartass and ask...I have heard tales of it being done...probably by the same guys that blend powders though.

Well...Winchester stepped up faster than I expected them to based on there last correspondence.

Sent me a voucher for some more Win./Olin ammo.

I picked up some 50 round packs of Wildcat Hi Vel. 40 gr.

Hopefully they work! :lurk5:

The Federal bulk packs are about all I shoot thru my MKI & my Pac-Lite 10" conversion on a 22/45, use both for bowling pins & average about 1 misfire /bulk box full.
Can't complain about that.
Also, clean enough so I can maintain my 22's like my Glocks.....Clean WHAT ???

ruger mkII likes thunderbolts and will run when warm on the fed bp
10/22 after broken in does fed fine
uzi likes the remington and when the mag is lubed will run fed too
strange isn't it

the win bulk - lot of misfires but also a wide variety of velocities. shooting through a can some would be way subsonic, a lot in the middle and some way over with a big crack.

remington was ok, only been through one box although a friend likes it "best".

the fed copper washed has been best of the three, what i buy now.

The "Federal Auto Match" is very good, consistent but you are buying 330 rounds vs 550 for about the same price.

I saw that Auto Match at Walmart the other day looking for 17HMR, was wondering if it was any good.

Bulk pack .22 ammo has usually been very good to me. I have a few bolt guns that I run it through.

Several autos that run it well too.

Had one box of Rem that didn't run well in any of the autos. I just shot it in the bolt guns.

I don't mean to imply anything about anyone in this thread when I suggest you might try cleaning or swapping your mags if the feeding isn't reliable.

I priced them last week at $11 something a box at my local {NH} WW. I'll be buying a few boxes this weekend before the price goes through the roof again.:(

22 LR self-loaders can be very ammo-sensitive, although my Rugers (22/45 and 10/22) eat about anything I run through them. An old Win 290 and the SIG Mosquito REQUIRE CCI Mini-Mags to function at all. From the sublime to the ridiculous, that.

A couple of my shooting/hunting partners bought mega-amounts of Winchester Dynapoints from K-Mart several years ago, and this has been VERY accurate ammo in a wide range of bolt rifles and revolvers. It runs pretty well in the Ruger stutter-guns, too. In a CZ Trainer, the cheep WW will shoot repeatable 1/2" groups at 50 yards. All day long. For real.

Still, on the basis of it-will-work-in-everything and its ability to provide good to excellent accuracy in all of my 22 LRs, CCI Mini-Mag gets the nod as my go-to ammunition for 22s. That Win 290 was a total disappointment with the cheep stuff, and with some high-line Rem and WW, too. CCI Mini-Mags were an immediate and complete fix to its balkiness, and shot well in the bargain. Win/win.
