With a injured wrist I was thinking of trying some low recoil loads in my .40. Got me to thinking does a faster or slower powder give less recoil with the same bullet. I am have 165gn in stock and did not want to buy any for now.

A faster powder will do the best. Youre looking for reduced velocity to reduce the recoil and a fast powder will accomplish that/burn cleaner.
Myself I like a 180gr in 40 at a lower velocity. The recoil is less "snappy". With the lighter bullets you need a little more powder to get the gun working.
If ya get a chance try some 180's but the 165's should work well also.

What injury does your wrist have? Even a reduced load might make it worse or, at a minimum, length your healing time. Have you considered using this recuperation time to practice your weak-hand shooting instead?

I have always preferred fast powder heavy bullet combos for "recoil management loads."
I don't load 40 but in 9mm a light to medium charge of WST or titegroup under 147-155g bullets delivers

Sorry, I should have presumed that you were under doctor's care on this.

Loads I like for Reduced Recoil are as Follows:
5.0gr 0f WSF under a 165gr FMJ Bullet
3.8gr of Bullseye under a 180gr Lead Bullet (750ish over my Chrono)
4.4gr of WSF under a 180gr Lead Bullet (feels the same as above load but no Chrono info)
All these loads Cycle the Gun everytime and drop the Brass a few feet away.
All Loads will drop Steel at 25yds and shoot to POA.

Try about 3.2 gr Clays under those 165's. Real soft. Depending on your grip, you may need a tad more or less powder.
(Look it up first, DUH!!!)
