Came a half hour ago via UPS. Heavier than I imagined 21 ounces would feel like. I got the QD stainless model.

Fit and finish is excellent. Clean welds, really have to look hard to find the seam. Engraving is subtle and not the white laser etched stuff like on my receiver. It's low key. Finish does come off on your hands a little though. I noticed this when practicing my combat rolls over the back of the couch.

I have to go to work soon and don't have time. Maybe tomorrow.

More pics! Any way to disassemble and clean it?

freakshow10mm

Nope it's a sealed can. Soak in mineral spirits, flush, and hit it with compressed air. About the only way to clean it. You can run it in an ultrasonic cleaner too.

Dang, sealed up huh? I'll bet getting a squibbed round stuck in there would suck.

I guess that's good for a simplicity thing though.

Just looked over the Form 3. I placed the order December 4th, 2009. The president of YHM signed the form on 1/26/09 and it was approved by the NFA branch (Dudash and Howard were the examiners) on 2/16/09. It shipped on 2/24/09 and arrived on 3/2/09.

Looks like YHM sat on it for a month and a half before submitting it to the ATF, they took about a week and a half to approve it. Then about a week later HYM said it was ready to ship (normal for mailing it back to YHM). Seems to me this should have and did take a month for the paperwork but YHM was dragging their feet. I'll have to keep that in mind for future orders.

Two months from order date to get the paperwork in the mail? Unacceptable. I'd go to their competitors.

The bore is big enough to where if you have a squib it won't get stuck. The bullet doesn't (shouldn't) touch the baffles at all. It passes through the suppressor freely. The entrance baffle bole is .241", then steps up to .249" and the exit hole is .298".

Thanks for that update on the dimensions Adam. Did YHM have the suppressor manufactured when you ordered it? If not, that would explain the 2 month delay.

It was in stock. They told me they just finished up a run of suppressors and were switching the machines over to making lowers and uppers to keep up with demand.

Glad the suppressor is in. Please let us know how it sounds. I assume you'll be comparing your own cans to this one?

Yeah, I shouldn't complain too much really. I was busy enough without it helped pass the time.

Yes, I got this to compare with my suppressor designs, and maybe to transfer it to myself if we move back to WI (suppressors are legal for civilians). I paid $260 for it on the demo program, so I guess I can't complain too much. :)

Heck no you can't complain about that! You could easily sell it for more than that. I know you know that already though.

Hopefully your design will be very good compared to this one. Will you can also be sealed?

No. All my suppressors will disassemble for cleaning.

Just got charged for the YHM Cobra .45 can. Tracking indicates it will arrive March 11th, next Wednesday. I'll have my .22 can ready in two weeks to start taking orders. Woohoo!

Great! Did you ever shoot the .223 can?

Tomorrow me and my R&D machinist are going to shoot it. It will be indoors so we won't get the full effect of it, but an idea of how it will sound. We will stand in the center of the range so we get even reflection off the walls.

I'm going to wait until I have the the YHM Cobra, the YHM Phantom, and the Freakshow Mfg Midget together and we are going to run a video and have it on the website.

I know a guy that has a DVD production business with broadcast quality recording equipment. He is going to come out to the farm with us and we will be testing suppressed and unsuppressed firings of these combinations:

.223 Remington with AR15 and YHM Phantom SS suppressor
.22 rimfire with Walther P22 and Freakshow Mfg Midget suppressor
.22 rimfire with Walther P22 and Freakshow Mfg Midget SS suppressor
.45 Auto with Glock 30 and YHM Cobra suppressor

This will be available on the website later this month (probably in two weeks). There is a gun show here March 27 and 28. I have a table reserved and will be displaying my Freakshow Mfg M16 machine gun with YHM Phantom suppressor and Beta C Mag attached, my Glock 30 with LWD threaded barrel and YHM Cobra suppressor, and my Walther P22 with Freakshow Mfg Midget suppressor and (if I can find a place to thread it in time) my Marlin 60 with Freakshow Mfg Midget SS suppressor.

I will be playing the DVD of the suppressor shooting video in a loop all throughout the gun show and have a stack of form letters to send to the local representative and Atty Gen Cox to urge them to pass legislation lifting the ban on individual suppressor ownership in Michigan (SOTs only currently).

This is my big coming out party. I'm not well known in the area, but after this gunshow, that will change. I'm the first and only licensed firearm manufacturer in the Upper Peninsula as well as the first and only Class 2 manufacturer in the Upper Peninsula. I'm already making history.

This is where I make my mark on the area and gain interest in NFA weapons for the area. Law enforcement guys usually come to the show and will see me there. I'm going to establish some appointments for a few demos. The post 86 MG is a teaser as are all the suppressors. I imagine there will be some busy traffic by my table all show.

I'll have a few things I'm getting rid of, some hi cap mags, AR parts, LPKs, etc. I got my machinist helping me out at the show too. Should be a blast.

Gotta go jockey pizzas around now. Later.:68:

Freak did you ever get a DB (sound) meter do get some before and after numbers with on the noise reduction.

freakshow10mm

Not yet. I'm going to get a cheap Radio Shack one if they have one here just to get a ballpark. I know these are cheap POS type, but right now I can't afford a "real" one at this moment.

There is a stereo installation place in a town over that sponsors dB drag racing competitions for stereos and I'm going to try and pull a few strings to see if they either have a spare one I can rent by the day or if I can borrow theirs for testing.

I'm going to send each model when they are done to Silencer Research and have him test it as well.

Fired 70 rounds through my demo model of the Phantom 556 Stainless QD suppressor.

Supposed to be rated for a 36 dB reduction in sound signature. I didn't have a meter with me but it's definitely hearing safe.

Shot it on my 16 inch AR15 with YHM Phantom QD flash suppressor mount. Ammo was a mix of 64gr PP and 69gr SMK with Varget (25gr) handloads. It was about 25 degrees outside. Using a standard front sight base and PRI gas buster charging handle, we experienced no "gas face", which is common with suppressed ARs. "Gas face" is when the gas that the backpressure created from the suppressor leaks out the charging handle and into the shooter's face. The gas buster handle is supposed to eliminate this. Some say it will still kick gas by, but our glasses contained no gas residue on them at all. Calm wind, stock assembly was fully extended for my machinist and I shoot two clicks out. Neither of us were hit with gas or blow by.

My R&D machinist and I ran a few moving drills with commands. When the shot was being fired we could hear the other one at 10y with a normal voice volume.

We didn't have targets to test accuracy, so that will come later when I get the rings in to scope it and get it on paper, noting POI shifts, etc. We were just gunning into the woods.

Retail price on these suppressors is $595 from most Class 3 SOT dealers. I got this one as a baseline for my suppressor lineup (I'm a Class 2 manufacturer) to be tested against, so this one isn't for sale, even though I got it for a steal from YHM. My YHM Cobra .45 pistol suppressor will be here on Wednesday. Thursday I will have another review for you guys on that one. Stay tuned. I'll update this thread with accuracy figures when my scope rings get here.

Thanks for the info Adam. What was the difference in the felt recoil?

freakshow10mm

Recoil was less, about like a .22 mag.

The Cobra .45 showed up. Tomorrow we are going to make some .22 cans and possibly have time to do some shooting.

Oh wow, the fun continues. So the can is higher than the front sight? Seems like that's a problem with many if not all pistol cans.

Do you plan to run 40 and 9mm through that can also?

Seems like that would be an advantage of one of the twist lock cans in that you could clock it in such a way that it would always line up a groove with the sight path. I wanna see video on YouTube!

You would still line up your sights like normal. The top of the can lines up with the top of my Big Dot sight.

I'm undecided if I'm going to sell this one for profit or if I'm going to keep it as a demo. I'll most likely put 100 rounds through it and sell it. I just wanted to try one out to hear a .45 suppressed. I knew I'd have one before I could make a booster for my own design.

If the weather cooperates we will have video this weekend. My machinist is coming over tomorrow and we are making the .22 LR Midget can (few of them).

Shot the Cobra today. Put 100rds through it. Noticed recoil impulse is different on my G30 suppressed than unsuppressed. Almost felt harder. Indoors was catching reverberations off the walls, but I shot it without hearing protection and was fine. Barely a slight ring but I think outside would be different. I think I was catching the sound off the walls.

I bought it to test out a can with a Neilson device and see how it worked first hand. The suppressor is now up for sale on my site. $525 shipped to your SOT. Currently sitting on a Form 3.
