Any of the GA folks here interested in having supper(dinner) one afternoon or night on a weekend? Somewhere around the center of the state, to be fair to all? Maybe stay the night, have breakfast the next morning and then go our separate ways?

May I recommend Daphne's? ;)

Good choice for eats Dan, but I was thinking more centrally located in all fairness.

I figure ~5 hours travel north to south for the entire state. Same ~5 hours travel east to west would put some folks in AL and SC within reach too, maybe.

The trip from Blueline's (Chatt., TN area) to you is about 5.5 hours, as he was 4 hours north of Perry, and you were 1.5 hours south, as I drove both a couple times on the last trip to GA.

Cohutt is an hour from ATL, without traffic, so about 4.5 from you. Drove that one a couple times too.

Biggest thing is that traffic in ATL. One segment I got stuck on 75 both north and south of ATL due to accidents. Took me 8 hours to go from the TN/GA line to Perry, should have been four at most.

When y'all do this, try for a weekend that doesn't have anything else going on, traveling back to GA after Thanksgiving weekend was a nightmare.

If y'all do this during the second week of April, I'd love to join you. I have to be in Bama for Baja, at least I'm planning on it.

Canton is a hour east of here. Works for me but not central really for the gnat eaters.

You can make it from my house to Chat Town in 4 hours if you hit ATL at the right time & only stop once for gas. I usually stop in Dalton, GA for petro when I'm headed North.

Although on the way home from Thanksgiving a couple years ago we spent 3 hours in bumper to bumper traffic around the Griffin/Jonesboro exit headed southbound on 75. It Sucked!!!!

It is crazy how 1 little traffic jam around ATL can set you back that much time. Should have went 85 - 185 - 82 instead of 75.

If you guys pull this together I just might be able fly down for it. I've got an unused Delta ticket I can probably transfer and Atlanta is a direct flight. Of course that's if the invite extends past the GA borders.

If you set a date I would be a maybe right now and if I can bump up my income turn that into a probably.

Having tired to put together similar things you just have to set a date and time and post it.

Over on the BBQ lists we usually put together some weekend events. Arrival Friday with something easy, spend Saturday BBQing, and a breakfast Sunday morning.

I've gone as far as a 1000 miles for one of these. I usually combine a vacation and I have a tolerant wife.

Too bad my BBQ buddy near Eastman, GA isn't a gun guy. We could have a heck of a weekend. Hotels are cheap and food is great. He is a 2nd Amendment supporter and has a couple of guns but he's not a shooter.

Good point PM. I know/hear what ya saying. Jes hard ta do.

All we got so far is Cohutt & SC somewhat agreeing on Forsyth.

For me it doesn't make much difference. I'll be coming from the Atlanta airport most likely.

FWIW, my wife and I are planning to be in Savannah for a few days the 2nd week of June. I have some professional training I'm planning on attending for two days.

I will be in Birmingham, AL third week of April. I was thinking of running to Blueline's place afterward.

Well, as usual, I've been sitting & reading.. just an old Georgia boy from Rome, usually in NC but now in Iraq til the end of the month. I'll be back in Rome the weekend of 18 July for my high school reunion.. not that I'm suggesting that as a date! I'd travel just about anywhere in GA for a social with this bunch.. maybe take a couple of extra days and hit Anniston for the CMP store there! :)
Just letting you guys know I'm still here, even if I don't have much to say!

MakeMineaP99

Rome, huh? Been through that town more times than I care to admit. Word on the street is a GPer may live in Rome too.

Hit Anniston if you've never been there. Both the CMP North and South stores have a bunch of my money, and I have a bunch of their guns.

I think I am moving my duaghter into an apartment next weekend.

Maybe we could meet in Atlanta and everyone could help me carry some stuff up the stairs too.

jawjaboy

Well then, you will already be that much closer to Forsyth. So that's not an excuse for non-participation. True? :43:

Atlanta? I don't go there Mister C.

Helping ta move. If it ain't too heavy, I a help in a heartbeat. My power days are on hold unfortunately.

So, you a go/no go?

Didn't get much response on my unbrilliant idea BL so I was gonna give a final call today. Granny needs ta know purdy early in da week about scheduling a Saturday off.

I think da best thing ta do is call this weekend off, bad idea on my part.

Sorry y'all.

Its brilliant idea but I think you will have better luck trying to schedule it out a couple of months in advance. I've got an airline ticket credit I could use but I need a month's lead time to make a decision to come down. Advanced purchase runs around $300. Within 2-3 weeks they run $500+

Saturdays are very difficult to get off because I don't have anybody to supervise the shift for me. With enough advanced notice I could possibly swing a Saturday. Y'all start working it out and I'll see what I can do. And pick a sunny day so I can drive the Jeep. Not too much sun because I don't want to burn.

How about we find someone to rub your redneck with sunscreen to prevent burning.
