Hey! Im looking for advice on some good bullets to reload for my S&W model 66.. It's a K frame 2.5" snubnose.. What style and grain of bullet is good to use in this firearm, in yas opinion?? (I'll probably stick with .38spl since the hot .357's are a little too much for everyday in the K frames)
Hell, I cant pass up an opp to show off my gun, so here she is! :patriot:

I'm a fan of the old FBI load, 158 gr LSWCHP.

THAT....
is a durned beautiful sidearm. A true CLASSIC. I love your use of the Tyler T-Grip!
I would suggest a 158-gr LSWC and 5.0-gr of Unique with a standard pistol primer.
I can send you a sample pack of cast 158-gr LSWCs and jacketed JSPs if you can't find some locally. My bullet stash isn't very large but I need some good karma coming my way.

OK, write this down, this is the perfect load for a snubby. In fact I just let two other shooters, one of which has never shot a snubby, shoot the last of what I had in stock, and they both loved it.
125 grain FMJ flat point
3.5 grains of Solo 1000 (thanks Dan)
COL 1.410"
Accuracy is beyond belief. Recoil is a nice push, no snap. The guy that shot it for the first time shot a 3" group at twenty yards! This is a great load. If you don't like it, I'll refund all your money.

That load is also CLEAN, as in Clays clean.

Not out of a snub nose (don't have one currently), but I do out of a 4". I'll have to look at my notes when I get home again.

Sexy Wheelie ya Got.
Ya Mind if I take it on a Date sometime?
I like the Load Nightsite suggested. If you find that its a lil warmer then you like.
my "Plinker" load is 3.8gr of Unique under a 158gr Lead Bullet. (725ish over my chrono)

Shoot me a mailing address and I'll get some out to you, pard. I'll send you what I can. It'll be a mix of Leadhead and Remington and Speer and Lazer Cast, cuz I won't let go of the nice cast bullets that a generous GPer named Eric made himself and shared with me. He put his heart in them and then shared some with me, so those bullets are staying with me. I hope you understand.
I know that the guys here who cast will claim :yuk: but here is the website for the guys who provide Buffalo Bore the 158-gr LSWC-HP gas check bullet that BB loads in their wonderful .38 snubbie ammo.

It's a 5-BHN GC bullet that would be freakin marvelous from a snubbie at .38 standard or +P pressures. I pay about the same price for 100-rds of factory rifle bullets for hunting, so I don't think the price is really all that bad for guys like me who don't cast our own handgun bullets.

When I sent you that brass, I didn't want anything in return. But after holding the cast beauties I got from you, I can't help but highly treasure them. And they shoot great! ")
They ain't for sale or trade, Eric.
Mickstix will get a sample pack from me but it'll be some commercially made stuff that I can share.
Best to all,
Dave
