Anybody got a good marinade recipe for steak they want to share? Nothing too hot and spicy, but something that can be cooked over an open flame and still come out real good...

Try this:
Great for steak, elk, venison, or any other steak.
For 3-4# (adjust accordingly)
1/2 c olive oil
1/2 c soy sauce
1/3 c fresh lemon juice
2 T red wine vinegar
2 cloves garlic, pressed
Mix all marinade ingredients together. Add meat, and marinate for several hours or overnight.

I like a very simple one. Soy sauce, coarse chopped onion, garlic and black pepper. Put it all in a zip lock bag with the meat for 15 to 30 minutes.

Italian dressing, worstershire, crushed clove of garlic. Put in ziplock with steaks, soak for a few hours. Take steaks out of bag, light amount of Kosher salt. Get your pepper grinder out... grind coarse pepper over both sides to your own preference of pepper quantity/taste. Hit the grill.

Put oil and spices on 1" - 1 1/4" thick steaks, don't marinade them....rub all over with olive oil, sprinkle on garlic powder (not garlic salt), ground pepper...and maybe a little ground cumin for the extra "barbeque" flavor....let sit a couple hours in the 'frige uncovered... lets the meat dry a bit (but don't worry the fats not going anywhere, just the moisture)....take them out of the 'frige...after about 2 or 3 cold beers its time to cook...they need to warm a bit, and the cook needs to get in the mood.....
Very hot fire...4 minutes first side...3 minutes after turning....should give a medium rare steak...cooking much longer turns a nice steak into dog food....
Few years ago, I watched a man in a local restaurant eating a well done steak...made me so sick I almost forgot to sop up the blood on my plate...
