So, after bending my Hornady die, I ordered an RCBS X sizer for .223. Got that, a pocket reamer, shellholder and some imperial sizing wax in from grafs today. Go to run my first case, it gets into the die, I start pullin it out, and it stays there and the ram goes down. I look at the shellholder. It's a hornady 35. I look on the invoice, which says it works for .223. I check their website, and find out I got the SH for the damn WSM cartridges.

So, to make everything better, the lil bit of OT I racked up this past week gets to help pay for the stuck case remover and new SH instead of some powder and primers. Woo.

If you ordered the .223 SH and they shipped the wrong one, how about calling them up and asking them for a free stuck case remover - in addition to the correct SH - to correct what happened to you? Sounds like a simple case of "oops" on their part that they'd probably want to make right.

Rob, sorry to hear about that man. I've never experienced a stuck case (thank God). Can you use a pair of pliers to get it out?

That's good advice from Craig.

Nah, I'm pretty sure I ordered the wrong thing. I just didn't check to see if it was the right SH. So, I'm just gonna have to eat it. At least now I'll have the tool if I ever need it.

Who did you order it from? Maybe they'll help you out. You won't know until you ask.

Grafs is good people, they should work with you.

I think Mr. Obama is just using mind control on me, so that I can't load ammunition for my EBR.

Is there a way to knock out a case that didn't have the base ripped off? Since the shell holder didn't fit at all the rim/base might be in good enough shape to knock it out from the top if you can get the die apart that way.

Stuck case kit came in. Drilled, tapped, yanked. Cleaned up the die. Rubbed some Imperial on some cases, and everything started running slick as whale poop on an ice flow. Now I just need some components and I'm in business.

TT:

Your day sounds like mine yesterday.

I drive out to a match (late). Shoot stage 1, drive up to stage 2 and promptly lock my keys in the car. Hide-a-key has apparently rattled off of the under carriage. My son drives out to save me, which is only like 50 minutes each way, bless his heart.

I then shoot EX twice at the IDPA classifier. I shot MA twice last year, but have apparently forgotten most of what I learned.

Anyway, at least I'm at home with the wife and kids. being on the road for 9 days SUCKS!!!

9 days is nothing! Do 30 on, then home for 4, but only 48 hrs useable time because you lose the rest to travel.

I closed the garage on the car yesterday, thankfully I caught it BEFORE it made contact. One of those days here too.

If you're married with kids, 9 days probably feels like 30 to a single man.

For future reference, if you shove a case up in a die with the wrong shellholder, but have the correct shellholder on hand, try this. With no shellholder in the press, run the ram up most of the way toward the bottom of the case. Slide the shellholder onto the case AND into the ram simultaneously, performing whatever alignment is necessary with the ram. If the case was properly lubed, you SHOULD be able to pull it right out, or even finish sizing it (if it wasn't already) and then pull it out. The only time you should really need a stuck case remover is when the rim has been pulled off.

Have you BTDT JL (LOL!)?

Oh yeah. I was sizing/decapping some 9mm with my Lee hand press. I got the case on top of the shellholder instead of in the groove.

Experience is really a great teacher.

I will bet there are a lot of stuck case removers that have only been used once.

Mine has, because one time with all that headache was enough.
