Hey Rusty; Your new RI 45 is a nice lookin weapon..I am a 45acp fan too. I've always liked the 1911 style. Let me know how you like the Rock Island brand. I knew a couple of men who had them and heard no complaints. According to them they shoot very well. Good luck and good shooting.

I really want a Springfield 45 G.I. I need a 5" G.I. so I can use that 400 Cor Bon barre/dies/brass I got. I have 2 sets of 45 dies. I'm not sure which one I want to keep though. I have the Dillon set which is cool but I have an RCBS die set, with crimp die, but it has two wadcutter, semi-wadcutter stems too...hard choice but I might could part with one.

That's a beautiful 1911, Rusty.
Everyone I know can speak highly enough of theirs.
I know I like my 1911....although it's not a RIA.

I'd like to say that's a beautiful gun, but I can't, because I think 1911's are friggin' ugly. I still love you Rusty.

I'll let you know. I'm hoping to go to the range in a few days. I know somebody that owns three and loves them. He told me his are very accurate and trouble free. Freakshow has one in I believe 10mm and told me he likes his also. I figured for the price I had to try one.

Mine's in .45 but I have a 10mm longslide coming soon from Caspian. KKM will be the barrel of choice, as always.

Rusty, I've got a RI .45. Can't say I've fired more than a couple hundred rounds through it, no problems in those few. I think for anyone looking for a reasonably priced 45 they should take a hard look at the RI.

Is it hard chromed ?
Hard for my gettin old ass eyes to tell .

It's nickel. I have been looking on the web and never saw anything but parkerized. When I went to the gun shop and found this one I was pleasantly surprised.

Rusty, the RI looks good. If you want to load up those two aluminum cases there is a blue press in your neighborhood that is already set up for 45ACP. We can paint the cases gold, drill out the primer pockets and you will be range ready in no time.

JT: I was thinking tactical black Krylon, probably a matte finish, but Dillon blue would be nice too.

Sounds good. Give me a holler when you get back and I will hopefully be ready to do some shooting. I go in for surgery on Wednesday the 26th and will be recovering for a couple of weeks but hopefully all that sickness I was feeling the last couple of times we went will be gone.

Sounds good. I have everything I need but bullets and they are only about a mile down the road. I'll give you a call when the primers come in and hopefully we can get together the first week of April to do some loading.

Thanks for the load Dan. I don't have either of those powders yet and I'm not sure how good Titegroup will work in 45 so I might need to try some of those.

Hey Rusty did you pick that up used or new? I have been looking at the RIA 1911's since you posted this thread and I have yet to hear anything bad about them.

Rusty,
Clays is soft shooting, but it does like to spike.
If I had to buy one or the other, it would be Solo 1000, think of it as improved Clays. It's become popular on the match circuit. It's a bit hard to find, try a skeet field or online (Grafs has good prices with discount). When I can find it locally, it sells for $20+/1#.
I shot lead exclusively in .45. I've haven't used TG since it isn't lead friendly.

Thanks again for the tips Dan. I haven't been shooting much lead so now that I have the 45 I know I will be shooting a lot of it.
Hey Rusty did you pick that up used or new?
I bought it new. I have been hearing a lot of great things about RIA guns but had a hard time finding out much about them on the internet. I was talking to a friend about ordering primers and told him about the gun and he told me he saw them at a local gun shop. He had one that was parked and the nickel one that I bought. For the price after doing some testing if this gun shoots as good as I have heard I'm going to get another one. The owner of the gun shop said they are a very good gun, built tight and are very accurate. He said he has been selling a lot of them. I actually heard about them first from Dave in GA over at THR. I called him and was talking to him about a conversion I am thinking of doing and he was telling me about the RIA's. I don't know how soon I will be able to shoot it but will give a report after.

What do you mean it isn't lead friendly? I shoot 230 grain LRN over ~4.6 grains of TG and it seems to work fine.

It's a very fast powder, in some guns it can lead to leading in the leade. SIGs are picky animals, they require almost as much attention as a woman.

I bought a RIA .45 a couple months ago and it has been a great gun. I'd been told that 1911s needed some break in time to function correctly but so far it hasn't had a single failure of any kind and is very accurate.

That's what I like to hear. The only problem is the gun is only as accurate as the person holding it, in which case mine will probably suck.:animlol:
